Re: Sell me on Kes.

Remember the insult "Your Mother mates out of season!" from the movie Alien Nation?

It's the same argument for Vulcans, sure they HAVE to every 7 years, but that doesn't mean that they still can't do it whenever they feel like. Or course one of the often forgotten facets of pon farr is that you have to go home to Vulcan to mate, so even if you shag yourself rotton on the way there, it still doesn't actually count till you're planet side, unfufilled sexual encounters is a trigger for serial killers, never mind, which is something that was addressed in the Movie themed comics since as you may recall, Vulcan had been destroyed by the Future Romulans, which meant that they were pretty much screwed.

OH I see the edit, only PART of the mate is eaten.. the part you won't need once you're impregnated. I suppose this balances it out if the female is the only one to go through heat, keeps the male from getting to do it more often than the female.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

Was it ever explained why they had to return to the planet?

Didn't that get kind of dropped? I don't recall this being mentioned in Vorik or Tuvok's pon farr.

Didn't seem necessary for T'Pol to return to Vulcan either, when she had her case of the hots.

Maybe in Spock's time all the women were kept locked away on Vulcan and that's why it was said they HAD to return. They being the males, unsaid.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

Spock was making an analogy to salmon so the idea that Vulcans must return to Vulcan could just be over applying the analogy. The main idea is seeking out a mate, presumably the one that the individual has bonded to. T'Pol, being unbonded at the time, was likely seeking out anyone. Had Spock not been bonded, Christine might have gotten her Plomeek souped.

And I was backing Ocompans in the Species you absolutely would NOT want to be under any circumstances thread. Thanks for changing my mind. You too Gov Kodos.

When you have only one shot, it's best to make sure you get the goodies for impregnation. Why take the chance the male can't perform? Just makes sense to assimilate the needed parts.

Consult your ship's doctor, and materials on inter-species sexual activities before jumping into something you may regret later.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

It is so very dangerous out there. Especially a species you can't google.

I bet Starfleet made PSA commercials using footage of Trip pregnant to scare people off willy nilly experimentation. Maybe that's why Trip had to pretend to be dead, to escape the shame of never being allowed to forget it.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

Kim never saw those PSAs or he wouldn't have got the cosmic clap in season six.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

He wouldn't see them because they are centuries out of date. I can hear Archer narrating them..

"Space is big kids and when I was younger I saw a gazelle being born. Don't let this happen to YOU!" Cut to lingering scene of Trip's wrist nipple and blurred picture of his distended abdomen.

I stopped being accurate here, or caring about being accurate here about 5 years ago.

Don't you know they lost all the ENT mission files? That's why no-one knew about Borg, Ferengi, ectopic crewmembers,ad nauseum...
