Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

This has the makings of a Doctor Seuss story. Teacake: The Cat and The Book.

That is my hand holding the book.
Oh, I see now. I was getting a false perspective, because the book is not near your feet as I thought. What was throwing me off was part of the book was above your left foot, but the other side looked like it was touching the floor. Also, I've been under the influence off and on for the past 14 hours.

I'll let you all know when I change my desk top background again.

It's set to tile.

I've transformed Teacake into a centipede.

That's like something out of Alice in Wonderland. A centipede on a teacake saying, "Who are you?" And no matter where you look, every side of the teacake says "Eat me".

We've gone from scissoring to rainbow shoe fetishes to comestible teacakes. It's hard to say.

As far as Annika Seven goes, a few minutes of google and serendipity found me this...

I bet Greg will be soooo happy when he reads how we are all discussing his book!
I mentioned it in my Time Travel Novels group. I dunno how many of the other members are into Star Trek, though.

Works for me!

For the record, there is no hardcover edition. We're talking mass-market paperback (and ebook) here.

I've not bought a Trek novel since the 80s, but after reading your posts here for a year, I'm thinking I should look for it at local stores when I'm out.

Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

Realistically, Annika is suffering from some big problems mentally.

She's basically like one of those girls who gets kept captive in a house and raped for decades on end (except by the Borg, it's symbolic etc). But her first inclination upon being rescued/released from her captivity is basically to say "I am no longer Annika, that girl died a loooong time ago". She basically retains some submissive tendencies towards the Collective, even as she acknowledges the atrocity of what she's been through. There's definitely a sort of Stockholm Syndrome thing going on in there somewhere. The experience has truly fucked her up.

And I've got to admit, that on some level I find it... unsettling that she never truly seems to resolve that apparent conflict in her mind.

Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

I have to visit OS relatives every day this week and I have now placed 7 does Kirk (I am ever hopeful) in my bag and I am going to be doing a lot of reading on the train. YES.

I haven't read a Cox book since the last Eugenics (which I bought in hardcover) so I'm quite excited!!!
