Considering how she ordered Janeway around ("Captain Janeway, report to Astrometrics."), she didn't need a Captain's rank.
The decision to go this way with the character robbed Seven of gaining any real connection with me. Perhaps, if she had been written as more, but not completely, child like, slowly regaining of pieces of herself, but not being so rigid and aggressive, instead being tentative and unsure.

I love her rigid and aggressive, and gradually softening as she find her humanity.

She found her humanity at the end of every episode and had then forgot it by the beginning of the next episode.

Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

She had glimpses of possible Annikas but that was such a small thing against the millions of voices of the Borg that raised her.

Around Season 7, I got the feeling that deep down inside Seven would have preferred being called Annika. She kept going into the holodeck where she would live out a fantasy life wearing a regular uniform, living in quarters, dating Chakotay, etc. It seemed like Seven was starting to want to live life as a "normal" human.

Annika is a stranger. Even the bits she might come to remember clearly are of a child, quite another person than herself.

Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

I'll have to disagree there.

The Borg took her mind out of her head, and catalogued it for respective, and then put it back in there with perfect clarity and %100 retention... Her First 8 years are like the last 5 minutes for a normal person.

Really? I never saw it that way.. why does she not remember the stuff Aunt Irene tells her about how much she loved to eat all those strawberries back in Sweden?

Unlike adults she went into a maturation chamber which induced a radical change to her physical form that Picard and others didn't experience. Her skull alone certainly isn't bone looking at the one Doc was holding. Also, a large chunk of her brain is making space for that chunk of hardware that makes up a significant part of her brain. Annika may have been put into that maturation chamber, but Seven of Nine is who came out.

Okay, I can't resist shamelessly pointing out that my Kirk/Seven book finally saw print this week. And, yes, she uses the alias "Annika Seven" in the book so this is perfectly OT!

Re: Why didn't the crew start calling Seven 'Annika'?

All that makes me think is that in some other crazy time travel adventure that she secretly married Gary Seven.

Now they kinda commute, or meet somewhere in the middle, you know, like the 22nd century.

You realize that Roberta and Isis would both have something to say about that, right?

(unless it's in the same continuity as the Khan novels, in which case Isis was killed )
