I always love this...

I don't hate this but LOVE this. It gives me a chuckle every time.

You'll be watching CSI and they have a photo on a screen, and they pull off some magic like zooming in 10000000000x (slight exaggeration I know) and pull out some details from that picture all without losing any data due to pixelation or image degradation.

I would love to have the software they are using...

They must be using some super lossless format with 1 billion pixel resolution

Every CSI and Law & Order type of show does this. Much amusement.

It is funny to watch. "Enhance. Enhance. Zoom in up close."
Amazing software, it not only zooms in on images, but replaces unavailable data with exactly the data they need to get a proper, high resolution image! Amazing!

I know .... There was an NCIS the other week where a suspect was sitting in a car, in shadow but they managed to pull up enough detail by doing just that and got the shoulder patch of the jacket he was wearing.

It's incredible! Who knew imaging technology had come that far, and that the NCIS people were using it! Suck it, NASA! Who needs to study stars and planets up close! Follow that perp! I know it's her because I recognize that mole!

My favorite schtick is when you get two people working on one keyboard. That takes talent!

That always reminds me of this scene. Back when Castle hadn't yet jumped the shark.

That NCIS clip, awful. And from that I found this- I presume this is what you mean

No wonder I never watch shows like this. That is bad.

I always laugh when someone complains that higher resolution digital cameras are a waste.

This thread makes a point that no MP limit is too high. You don't always have to use 50MP (or whatever they're up to now), but it's nice to have when you do need it.

Only if you have decent optics in front of that sensor, though. I have a 36 megapixel camera and the sensor easily outresolves most budget zoom lenses.
When I put a Zeiss prime lens in front of it on the other hand...

Having a lot of megapixels in a cell phone camera is completely pointless with the shitty lens and terrible noise (since the pixel density is way too high).

I understand the cell phone camera being a different animal. But an SLR should do a good job with the right lens.

Relatedly, this is kind of like how Willow was the ultimate Google-fu master on 1990s PC computers and could literally find out anything and everything (as dictated by the episode of the week's needs).

I like the way hacking works on TV.

Everything that's happening is visually traceable, and shooting the monitor is a more effective way to stop the hack than unplugging the network cord.

NCIS and other shows probably know of physical dimensions and just make fun of themselves that way. Any other explanation only makes them look quite dumb.
