Plunder its technology?

The Scimitar gave the Ent-E the beating of its life, it would be a good wake up call for starfleet.
I wasn't speculating about what Shinzon had, I was just speculating as to why Starfleet would have sent the Enterprise-E.

Actually, that was kind of what I was going for, one would expect for a variety of reasons the new Praetor wanting the Enterprise. When Janeway or Picard first hear that request it wouldn't really set off too many alarms for them. "Oh yes, he wants our most high-profile ship and crew, either for hero worship to take out his largest thread from us" instead of "he wants the Enterprise? What the hell for? What makes us so special?"
Where I was going with my point was not so much the Enterprise herself, but Shinzon wanting Picard, personally, by name. As you state, it would at least make Picard wonder why someone who is a complete stranger to him would want him personally, which we would then find out once Shinzon was revealed. Hell, Shinzon could have just asked for Picard to come to Romulus by himself, without the Enterprise. That would have made a hell of a lot more sense.

The way the film portrayed it, Janeway simply randomly chooses the Enterprise, even though it is the "closest ship" thanks to them having to find B4. But Shinzon was putting an awful lot of faith that Starfleet would still send the Enterprise despite this, instead of simply asking for her specifically.
But then, Picard is something of a celebrity among Starfleet officers and well known among other Alpha Quadrant powers that asking for him specifically still wouldn't set off too many alarms.

But yeah, I get your point, it would have made a lot more sense than burying pieces of an android in an alien desert to lure the Enterprise to the area so they could be the closest ship in range. Just imagine if another ship had detected the positronic readings and its crew were like "Hey, that Mr. Data on the Enterprise would totally owe us if this led to something significant. Let's check this out." And meanwhile, Shinzon would be sitting on the bridge of the Scimitar observing this and be like "Fuck!" And the Viceroy would be like "why didn't we just take this ship with an undetectable cloak to Earth when we knew Picard would be there, beam him aboard and set off our doomsday weapon?"

Ah, Nemesis. Fun movie, just don't think about it too much.

Ah yes, reason #642 as to why Nemesis sucks

They're hilarious little animations on the internet that parody movies.
Correction: they used to be hilarious.

Dr Evil-cough-I-mean-Shinzon would have told his viceroy to zip it.

It seems to me that the 'exploration' of Nibiru in ST-ID was almost needless- they were there to fix the volcano. Still cannot get over the idea of hiding the ship just off shore was just to make a dramatic reveal at the beginning of the movie- if you were trying to study a planet and it's civilization why risk such cultural contamination for no point?

I too am tired of the bad guy super ships against Earth- they did set the stage for an interesting exploration theme for the third movie, I just hope they have the 'balls' this time to follow through with it and have the Enterprise visit something interesting and not rehash the David vs Goliath plots that dominate the franchise, reboot or not...

The Enterprise wasn't dispatched to Nibiru to 'fix' the volcano, they were on a survey mission and decided to stop the eruption in order to preserve the local population. As for hiding the Enterprise in the ocean, it's implied that the planet had some sort of transporter-inhibiting properties that necessitated close observation.

Also, it was goddamn cool and served a story purpose: it depicted a reckless Captain Kirk who was convinced that his luck was actually skill.

I loved the cold open. It was the first time, ever, that we saw the crew of the Enterprise doing their regular jobs on the big screen without a galaxy-ending crisis hanging over their heads. I hope we see more in the next film.

Dude, the third movie will totally be about the Borg.

^I hope not. I want them to do something more original than what TNG already did.

You were expecting a fan film then. That would make no sense to a general audience.

Would you say that is more or less like a fan-film than re-making an entire scene from TWoK almost word-for-word? I'm going to go with "more", because I think most fans would be smart enough not to just straight up plagiarize TWoK.

"Plagiarize" has a specific meaning, and the writers of STID didn't plagiarize TWOK.
