Any Yeoman starting with TNG?

Were there any Yeoman in TNG/DS9/VOY? Does Naomi Wildman count as one? And it really seems like there should have been a small army of them aboard DS9, but I guess members of the Bajoran Militia were handling those tasks?

I guess I can understand that custom might have changed between TOS and TNG, but it seems odd that we didn't see any on ENT, either. Or did we? If so, I missed it.

Not according to Memory Alpha.

Re: Any Yeoman starting with TNG?

None definitively, but I thought there might be some "fan sightings" of background characters that seemed to consistently be doing Yeoman-y things.

But okay, let's assume that's correct. The next part is... why? Someone in the Yeoman appreciation threads over in the TOS forum suggested that the computer made them unnecessary, but I'm not sure how that would be any more true in TNG than it was in TOS, given that most of what we saw them doing is kind of outdated now.

Well considering the Enterprise-D had a population of over 1000 (and we only saw what, 50-100 of them?) I think you're allowed to use your imagination to fill in the blanks. Really? Picard only got his hair cut ONCE in seven years? I find that hard to believe.

That's what I thought. Just because we don't see yeoman (or dolphins) doesn't mean that they're not there! Lol!!

Re: Any Yeoman starting with TNG?

This'll sound cynical, but it's likely a result of the writers of the other shows being ignorant and not knowing what a Yeoman is. Even if we accept that computer advances somehow "negated" the need for them in the 24th century, ignorance is a good reason for why we never saw any in Enterprise.

Although, the flaw with the ignorance theory is that at the very least, Ron Moore would know about Yeomen. Maybe he just couldn't think of a way of inserting one into a Trek story, since indeed Adama did have a Yeoman in BSG.

At least the dolphins got mentioned. Twice.

Then have male yeomen. That's what they did on BSG. Problem solved.

I'd be more likely to believe that, if there hadn't often been at least one character standing around in a cat-suit or sexy gown just looking beautiful.

None were ever named or identified as yeomen, but in any crowd scenes there are always several crewmembers in red. Starfleet postings only have a small number of command officers and don't need that many pilots/navigation specialists, so I assume that they are administrative officers/assistants (a more updated term rather than yeoman). But that's just me.

Wouldn't yeomen be in gold? Red is the TOS uniform color.

Yeomen are essentially admin support to ensure the smooth running of a ship/station. That would involve a lot of paper-pushing which, to me anyway, would be more of a command division duty. I've always found it odd Yeomen in TOS weren't in gold.

I base this concept off of a batch of deck plans for the E-A I stumbled across ages ago, which also included a breakdown of the department numbers. Under the Command Department (after CO and XO) it listed: Finance, Records, Personnel, and Legal Officers (one of each), as well as eight non-com Yeomen. Since its not canon it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but it's a good place to start off I find when creating duty rosters.

According to MA, the red "operations" uniform in TOS covers engineering, security, and "support services". The latter is probably the section the yeomen fall under. We know from Court Martial that personnel officers and JAG officers wear red, too. (Although the same episode shows that records officers wear gold.)

Note that Yeoman Tina Lawton wore blue, though, so maybe yeoman don't have their own section, and wear the colour of the section they work for?

Actually, a few of the female uniforms in TOS seem to be the "wrong" colour:

- Dr. Ann Mulhall, an astrobiologist, wears red
- Marla McGivers, an historian, wears red (although I guess I really don't know what department this would fall under)
- Charlene Masters, an engineer, wears blue

Maybe the costuming department just had more red female uniforms available, so this is what yeomen normally wore?

Re: Any Yeoman starting with TNG?

There are times in TOS when "yeoman" seems to be used more like a rank than a position.
