TOS: No Time Like the Past Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Greg Cox returns this February 25th with a standalone 5YM TOS novel (his not-so-guilty pleasure), No Time Like the Past. This one's interesting because it sort-of answers a recurring demand for stories set within the original runtime of the 24th century Trek shows: The fetching blonde Captain Kirk will run into this time around is no other than Seven from smack in the middle of her timeline on Voyager.

This and more can be found in the blurb:

Stardate 6422.5. A diplomatic mission to the planet Yusub erupts in violence when ruthless Orion raiders attempt to disrupt the crucial negotiations by force. Caught in the midst of tense and dangerous situation, Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S Enterprise finds an unexpected ally in the form of an enigmatic stranger who calls herself "Annika Seven."
Stardate 53786.1. Seven of Nine is taking part in an archaeological expedition on an obscure planetoid in the Delta Quadrant when a disastrous turn of events puts Voyager's away team in jeopardy-and transports Seven across time and space to Yusub, where she comes face to face with one of Starfleet's greatest legends.
Stardate 6422.5. Kirk knows better than most the danger that even a single castaway from the future can pose to the timeline, so he and Seven embark on a hazardous quest to return her to her own era. But there are others who crave the knowledge Seven possesses, and they will stop at nothing to obtain it-even if this means seizing control of the Enterprise!

You should write a book about that.

Just out of interest, Jedi Ben, have you read either of the Department of Temporal Investigations books? The second of the two concerns itself with Kirk's reputation and experiences regarding time travel, among other things.

They're a lot of fun, especially if you're intrigued by time-travel as seen in Star Trek . . ..

Thanks.

Hmm, quite recent too so easily available. Once I've worked my way through Vanguard I'll grab 'em.

Well, it's mostly a TOS book guest-starring Seven, although there are some chapters involving the rest of the Voyager crew.

I'll be picking it up; first TOS novel in a long time I'm getting. Usually I find crossovers like this kind of corny, but it seems to me like it should fit Cox's style well, and Beyer's got me on a real Voyager kick.

Kirk and Seven. Oh yeah, that'll end well.
