The Maze Runner (film) pre-release thread

The next movie to come out as part of the post Hunger Games YA dystopia craze, The Maze Runner is based on the novel by James Dashner and is released on Sept. 19 of this year. It is written by Noah Oppenheimer (this appears to be his first film, according to Wikipedia he worked for NBC News before becoming head of development for Reveille, part of Shine America) and is directed by Wes Ball (This is his first director credit. It stars Dylan O'Brien (Stiles in Teen Wolf), Kaya Scoledario (Effy from Skins), Will Poulter (Eustace from Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader and Kenny from We Are the Millers) and Patricia Clarkson.

Trailer:

Description from IMDB:
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, young Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape.

Book description:
"If you ain't scared, you ain't human."

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He's surrounded by strangers--boys whose memories are also gone.

Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It's the only way out--and no one's ever made it through alive.

Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

I haven't read the book yet, but the premise has interested me, and the trailer looks pretty cool.

I thought the next YA/Hunger Games movie was Divergent?

Oops, yeah, I forgot about Divergent. Which is sad because I've actually been looking forward to that one too.

Re: The Maze Runner (film) pre-release thread

I picked up the book on a whim about 2 years ago, but I never got around to finishing it. It was decent enough while I was reading, but it never made me want to pick it back up. I think I got about 3/4 of the way through. It's just not that memorable. Unless I'm literally in the middle of reading it, I kind of forget that it's even there. Lord knows if I'll ever get around to reading the sequels.

Movie looks decent, though.
