IDW Picard vs Khan?

I wonder when IDW will do this?

either set in Prime universe ('what if' tale of Ent D or E encountering Botany Bay..or Khan is brought back in the 24th century via cloning or something to do with Genesis) or even the JJverse (BC Khan stays frozen until the 24th century)

Probably never. Khan is dead in the Prime Universe. IDW has only ever done one Myriad Universes tale and that was nearly five years ago, so there's no reason to expect them to do another. Indeed, IDW rarely publishes anything non-Abramsverse these days.

And nobody's going to do Abramsverse TNG anytime soon. The universe is changed so much that we don't even know if the TNG characters would exist. And the Bad Robot "Supreme Court" maintains close control over the tie-ins and makes sure they follow the lead of the movies, so nobody's going to create an Abramsverse TNG until or unless they decide to do it -- or until they pass the mantle on to someone else, and we have no idea when that might be.

So the chance of this happening in the foreseeable future is effectively zero. Don't hold your breath.

Except . . . things can change pretty rapidly. One possiblity is that Bad Robot and Co, are gone from the (Star Trek) scene by the close of 2016. Maybe someone picks up that mantle from there and keeps going, but maybe not.

Ironically in the Myriad Universes novella Seeds of Dissent, that reality's Jean-Luc Picard is a right-hand man to Khan Noonien Singh's grandson, the cruel, racist, despotic, etc. current Khan Imperator of the Khanate of Earth in 2376.

Forget IDW, I'm still waiting for that "What if the Enterprise-D found the Botany Bay" story spoken about for Pocket's first Myriad Universes (then Split Infinitives) volume. Was there ever anything more to it than a vague concept, I wonder?

(Perhaps it evolved into Seeds of Dissent?)

Re: IDW Picard vs Khan?

Although too, had Kirk's Enterprise not discovered the Botany Bay, Picard's Enterprise likely wouldn't even exist, since it was Khan's later actions which (ironically) put Kirk's crew into position to move against the Cetacean Probe, whose arrival at Earth was an entirely-independent (and inevitable) event.

There would have to have been some other replacement antecedent occurring in 2285-86 which would have resulted in party capable of independent action resolving that crisis (whether Kirk or someone else).

(Come to think of it, that would make for a much more interesting Myriad Universes story than whether or not the 1701-D runs across a sleeping Khan, which would probably work better as a pure intellectual exercise.)

I wish there were more books coming out in the Myriad Universes line. Or better yet, a new sub-franchise of Star Trek that's better than the Abramsverse!

I never understand this stance. "We want more Myriad/Mirror Universe stories" but "JJ Abrams' stuff shouldn't be an alternate timeline/universe"?

I don't know if anyone ever developed that one.

I talked to Marco about one in which Kor finds the Botany Bay in the 2250s. However, that was a consequence of the POD, which involved Earth's Third World War -- or rather, the lack thereof.

Sitting here in 2014, the interesting Khan alt-history to me now would be if Ceti Alpha VI didn't explode, the Reliant thus never went to Ceti Alpha V, and Khan's civilization is rediscovered on the verdant Ceti Alpha V in the 24th-century. In short, show us the story the closing scene of "Space Seed" suggests.

That's always been the alternate I would've liked to see. One of the many reasons I don't like TWOK that much is that it totally squandered the potential that "Space Seed" set up.

Well as someone with grievances against the Abramsverse, I object to the following things including but not limited to: an Enterprise crew way too young and hasn't done shit to properly earn their ranks, Blingons, white Khan, white Khan's superblood, transwarp beaming in the 23rd century, Delta Vega in Vulcan's solar system, Earth never has any defenses besides the Enterprise, Nyota Uhura knows shit about Vulcans despite being a Starfleet officer, Starfleet officers could get all the way to Qo'noS without getting caught before reaching planetside, Qo'noS is less than a day away, the Vengeance is the biggest-ass Federation ship ever but is built and launched in less than a year, no returning major established Star Trek species besides Vulcans as exemplified by deciding to have Orions and tons of unknown generic non-human species instead of Andorians or Tellarites, Section 31 has a secret starbase in the Sol System and lots of personnel at their disposal so how are they supposed to be a rogue secret agency, no design lineage transition between ENT/pre-TOS ships to Abramsverse ships, etc.

And I do object somewhat object to Abrams/Orci/Kurtzman's interpretation of temporal physics to create the Abramsverse but that's not really important. Now, I don't know how everybody feels, but I think it is not inaccurate to say that lots of people feel that the Abramsverse is an extremely poorly delivered alternate quantum reality. And that is why we prefer Mirror Universe and Myriad Universes.

All of which has nothing to do with a discussion about a potential alternate Picard vs Khan thing in a forum that for the most part unless tie-ins are discussed (which this isn't) has nothing to do with NuTrek.

So why the need to derail the discussion with an opinion about a movie from almost a year ago and another film from 5years ago that has nothing to do with the fraking topic what so ever?

I admit that it is tangential to this thread, but I was simply attempting to answer the question posed by Therin.
