It's a shame he was only interviewed for one DVD release (FC)... he no doubt had plenty of stories to share.

Producer? His credits for the Trek films are "Unit Production Manager" which is a different thing than a producer.

I know, I wanted to simplify it for the thread title.

But he is credited as co-producer on Star Trek VI and executive producer on FC, INS, and NEM.

Besides, titles like executive producer are a bit nebulous. It could be someone involved with finances or logistics, which is what Hornstein appeared to do, or it could be someone's cousin. (Such is life in the film biz.)

First, I should add, condolences to his family and friends.

As to the credit, actually, it's titles like Associate Producer that are frequently misused. Executive Producer actually means something. Its the handing out of "producer" credits like candy that in part led the Producers Guild of America to institute a guild "mark" (pga) and fight to get those used in film and TV credits to distinguish between actual producers and faux producers, so hopefully you'll eventually see it regularly in credits like you do ASC (for American Society of Cinematographers).

I'm surprised his passing didn't make the news. I searched for his name on Google News and got no relevant results.

Well, he's not exactly a well known name, and connection to Star Trek doesn't necessarily connote newsworthiness.
