Today the movie world has suffered a great loss. Our dear friend Marty Hornstein has passed away and he will be dearly missed. Marty was one of the producers on four of the Star Trek films and he was a dear friend. Always a pro and always a gentleman, Marty was one of a kind. He loved life and loved to smile. What a great man and all of your Star trek family are feeling this loss with tremendous heart ache. We love you sir and may you sail home on heavenly wings!!! Producer? His credits for the Trek films are "Unit Production Manager" which is a different thing than a producer.

I know, I wanted to simplify it for the thread title.

But he is credited as co-producer on Star Trek VI and executive producer on FC, INS, and NEM.

Besides, titles like executive producer are a bit nebulous. It could be someone involved with finances or logistics, which is what Hornstein appeared to do, or it could be someone's cousin. (Such is life in the film biz.)

First, I should add, condolences to his family and friends.

As to the credit, actually, it's titles like Associate Producer that are frequently misused. Executive Producer actually means something. Its the handing out of "producer" credits like candy that in part led the Producers Guild of America to institute a guild "mark" (pga) and fight to get those used in film and TV credits to distinguish between actual producers and faux producers, so hopefully you'll eventually see it regularly in credits like you do ASC (for American Society of Cinematographers).

Well, he's not exactly a well known name, and connection to Star Trek doesn't necessarily connote newsworthiness.
