Re: The Curator.... Who is he? (SPOILERS for "The Day of the Doctor")

^Well, given that Tom Baker said he'd like to come back to DW as the Master, let's throw him in for good measure!

(Not a serious suggestion, I hasten to add)

So, here's some of the ideas, gathered:

*The Curator is the Moment, in disguise.
*The Curator really IS a Future Doctor, now a master of choosing a previous face of his.
*The Curator is the above, but at the same time, the same character as Tom Baker in JNT's version of Shada.
*The Curator is a splinter of the Fourth Doctor, who went on to live the rest of his life on Earth AS the Curator, before "regenerating" into the Watcher and reuniting with the real Fourth Doctor in the past.
*The Curator is the actual Fourth Doctor from an alternate universe.
*The Curator is the Nth Doctor - the Final Doctor.

Missing anything?
Yes, you're missing a big one. He's the normal Fourth Doctor.

A few more, he's:
-Another Time Lord
-Really is a humble museum curator
-Tom Baker wandered onto set and started jabbering with Matt Smith

Poor Tom. That meme is being repeated so often, people are actually going to start "remembering" that's what happened

Perhaps that's why he wasn't in the protest Video, he worked his own angle, that the Producers weren't able to avoid, by himself

How is that possible?

^ I suppose one could argue that using the same reasons for the Fifth Doctor looking so old in Time Crash, Four could look like Tom now does if he ran into Eleven. I don't think he intent of the cameo was that he was Four, though.

Because it's Doctor Who, and as we've seen many, many, many times, anything is simply possible.

Really, the only intent for the scene is for the fans to go with whatever they want. As far as we're concerned, the Curator can be whoever we want him to be.

Although, I keep thinking it would be awesome if they brought the Curator back for the 75th anniversary, this time played by Christopher Eccleston...

You're in a Doctor Who forum. Is that question even allowed here?

No. Just. No. It's a lovely idea, but the Fourth Doctor stories were more linear and far less confusing than this modern "timey-wimey" crap. The only Tom Baker story where the Doctor was aged to that extent (and beyond) was in The Leisure Hive, and he was un-aged pretty damn quickly.

It's theoretically possible that he could have had centuries' worth of adventures between The Deadly Assassin and The Ribos Operation (his only Companion at the time was the second K-9 (the first K-9 stayed on Gallifrey with Leela at the end of The Invasion of Time), but judging by Tom Baker's physical appearance and the dialogue at the beginning of Ribos Operation, it's evident that the beginning of the Key to Time stories starts very soon after the conclusion of Deadly Assassin - since they're preparing to leave Gallifrey.

So no - the Curator is not the Fourth Doctor.

Still, it would have been wonderful if the Curator could go home to an equally aged future Romana (played by Lalla Ward). I'm not normally a romance-minded person, but that appeals to the sentimental part of me that thoroughly loved the romantic vibe they gave off during City of Death.

Why wouldn't it be allowed?

Because it's the Doctor Who forum. You're only allowed to ask a question if "Who" is the subject of the sentence. Both your question and Set Harth's are not allowed.

"How" is an anagram of "Who". That should count.

You obviously mean The Invasion of Time, of course? Deadly Assasin was the only companion-less story Baker ever did, but it was just after Sarah Jane's exit.

That said, there is an audio series with Baker as the Doctor that was set between The Invasion of Time and The Ribos Operation. Haven't gotten to it, but I hear its lovely - complete with a Second Doctor clone at the end!
