Christina Aguilera: Babe of the Week #47 (Nov. 2013)

Christina Aguilera
("The Voice" coach, four-time Grammy winner, over 39 million albums sold worldwide)
Thumbs up= Thumbs down= Thumbs sideways=

Christina Aguilera was born in Staten Island, New York. At an early age, Aguilera developed a deep love of music (her mother was an experienced violinist and pianist). By the time she was in elementary school, her big voice had swept through a number of local talent shows, causing harsh envy from her schoolmates and even some parents. It became so bad that Aguilera's mother eventually made the decision to home-school her daughter. In 1990, she appeared on "Star Search." In 1993, she joined fellow castmates Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell on "The All New Mickey Mouse Club."

In 1998, Aguilera was tapped to sing the song "Reflection" on the soundtrack for the Disney film Mulan. The singer made her debut at the all-female concert festival Lilith Fair the following year, and signed with RCA Records. Also in 1999, she released her self-titled debut album, a successful record that would go on to sell more than 8 million copies, due in no small part to two big Billboard hits: "Genie in a Bottle" and the No. 1 single "What a Girl Wants." The album earned Aguilera the 2000 Grammy Award for best new artist.
"The Voice" returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show's fifth season. Celebrity musicians and original coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton all return, while Carson Daly continues to serve as host. The show's innovative format features four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and, finally, the live performance shows.

During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don't get to see them -- thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the artist's voice, he/she pushes a button to select the artist for his/her team. At this point, the coach's chair will swivel so that he/she can face the artist he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes his/her button, the power then shifts to the artists to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes his/her button, the artist is eliminated from the competition.

Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their team of artists, giving them advice and sharing the secrets of their success, along with help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. After the vocal battle, the coach must choose which of his/her singers will advance to the next round of competition, while the losing artist is available to be stolen by another coach. Each coach has two steals available during the battle rounds.

Well, her music is a mixed bag, but she is undoubtedly sexy. Thumbs Up.

^ Actually, her music doesn't appeal to me at all, but she has a good voice.

She's super hot and not at all annoying, like Britney Spears.

Of course up (and not only because of her looks).

For me she is one of the best current pop singers and she has an amazing range though sometimes it may drift off into shrieking which i don't like.

However if she keeps her singing grounded and isn't going haywire through the vocal spectrum it's awesome to listen to her.

She definitely has left Britney Spears in the dust when it comes to singing talent after they both left their initial stage of child stars but Britney hasn't improved much whereas Aguilera has found her own unique style and has much more variation in her songs.

This is one of my all time favorite performances of her with a legendary song:

My first (I think) thumbs down. Too fake, trying too hard, too much makeup, too slutty.
Give me sweet little Shakira any day.

Christina is certainly musically talented, but her music isn't to my taste and I've never found her all that attractive. Sorry, I'll have to go thumbs down on this one.

Really? Her name isn't exactly Swedish, you know.
