The Raid: Redemption

America is about to remake this Indonesian action classic. Given that US action is all about quick edit cutaways and 90 percent stunt doubling now,I don't see how any new version could do it justice.

Who else here has seen it? Loved it? Hated it? And in either case, why?

Loved it (and I thought they already remade it with Dredd?)

I kid, I kid!

Nah, the Raid absolutely blew my mind watching it. Sure, maybe the story itself wasn't spectacular but that's not what it was designed for. The fight choreography and action scenes were phenomenally well-made. The only real negative for me, and it was only slight, was that the final fight seemed to drag on too long.

I thought both The Raid and Dredd were concomitant

I'm pretty sure Dredd had its central premise in place way before The Raid.

Both films are excellent though I'm not sure why The Raid necessitates a remake; it's not exactly a difficult film to follow even in a foreign language.

It doesn't. But the partially correct assumption is that mainstream American audiences will not sit through a completely subtitled film. There is an English-dubbed version on the DVD, however. And THE RAID's director is Welsh.....
