Space 1999 to be Remade/ Rebooted?

http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/cont...-in-the-works/

One of the topics which turns up on the BBS with some regularity is Gerry Anderson's 1970s space saga Space 1999. Inevitably, the discussion will turn to a remake and what to call it, given that 1999 came and went and the moon is still in our orbit. The show is generally lauded for its lovely visuals (the Eagle spacecrafts and costumes in particular). However, the implausibility of the moon leaving orbit, travelling fast enough to visit other planets, but slow enough to allow the heroes to have adventures there, is much ridiculed.

Now, news of a remake has surfaced. Not much detail, but Deadline reports that:

ITV Studios America and HDFilms have teamed to develop Space: 2099, a reimagining of the 1970s British sci-fi series Space: 1999 created by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson. HDFilms’ Jace Hall, who recently executive produced ABC’s reboot of another sci-fi franchise, the 1980s mini-series V, is executive producing the new project.
Anderson's shows have been poorly served by remakes. The Thunderbirds movie was awful and the CGI Captain Scarlet series from a few years back lacked the charm of the original (IMHO). Of course, Space 1999 wasn't a marionette show and thus oldies like me can't grumble about missing the charm of Anderson's wonderful puppets. I actually think that Space 1999 could work as a remake, if given a more scientifically likely explanation for why the colony is flying through space. And the Eagle crafts wouldn't need a lot of tweaking in their design.

Could this be the next Doctor Who?

But the crucial question is will it still start on 13th September in what ever year they decide to set i. Should it go ahead.

Hadn't realised that there was already a thread on this, started by Tennis The Vorta. May as well lock this one mods.

Are you sure? Martin Landau's acting seemed rather wooden.

Not as much as Barbara Bain's performance as Dr. Russell. She could have been replaced by a length of 2 x 4 with a wig taped to one end, and it would not have changed the show too much at all.

Now my lunch is all over the floor. Thanks so much!

We can stick with this one instead, I don't care. All threads should be about ME instead of some stupid show about the moon leaving orbit which has about .05% of ever happening anyway.

So who do we think should play the roles?

I was thinking Wayne Pygram from Farscape would make an interesting Victor Bergman.

Who's in need of work right now? What shows have been canceled? Does Hugh Laurie like SF?

Never seen 1999 - but this is the first new sci-fi show actually set in freaking outer space! that I know of coming to TV anytime soon, so for that alone, I'm interested.
