Aubrey Plaza: Babe of the Week #40 (Sept. 2013)

Aubrey Plaza
("Parks and Recreation," Safety Not Guaranteed, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World)
Thumbs up= Thumbs down= Thumbs sideways=

Aubrey Plaza was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and named for a song by the band Bread. She began performing as early as age eight at the Wilmington Drama League but developed her skill for instigation at the private, all-girl Ursuline Academy, staging a day of fake mustache-wearing and once following her principal home by concealing her presence inside a cardboard box. In 2002, Plaza enrolled in the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and was studying improv with the Manhattan-based Upright Citizens Brigade by age 18. Prior to her 2006 graduation from NYU, Plaza worked as an NBC page at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and as a set design intern during the 2004-05 season of "Saturday Night Live." Despite a lack of professional experience, Plaza began racking up an impressive list of credits, both on television and via web-based short form comedy series. She appeared in a walk-on as an NBC page in a first season episode of the sitcom "30 Rock," wearing the very uniform in which she had once conducted studio tours.
Parks and Recreation is a mockumentary that looks at the exciting world of local government. The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town -- and advance her career -- Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Logan (Rashida Jones) take on defensive bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, real estate developers and single-issue fanatics -- whose weapons are lawsuits, the jumble of city codes and the very democratic process that Leslie loves so much.

She is so utterly adorably snarky.

I love her, but not in an attractive kind of way. I do kind of wish she would play a character that wasn't April from Parks and Rec. What I mean is I watched a movie a few months ago with her in it (Safety Not Gurenteed) and it was pretty much the same as April. It kind of reminds me of Jim Parsons pretty much being Sheldon in real life. Maybe Plaza is a one trick actress, though I haven't seen nearly enough to make that determination.

I don't know much about her but I know of her.

Did a little googling and she reminds me a lot of Olivia Munn. Similar look and sense of humor. That Conan clip captures all of that pretty well.

I also noticed her GQ photoshoot.

The ad itself was actually a joke written up by an editor in 1997 as a filler for his magazine's classifieds page which became something of an internet meme. Safety Not Guaranteed is a fictionalized account of the guy pictured in the original YTMND presentation of the ad. Or possibly the ad itself, I'm not sure the full story of how this started.

Also, YTMND has had a lot of fun with the ad over the years.

She's cute in an offbeat way, so thumbs up -- even if her name does sound like a shopping mall.

Okay, this is my kind of babe-- especially when she wears glasses. The video left me a bit perplexed. I'm not sure if she's got a sense of humor or if she's just brain dead. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and go with Thumbs Up.

I love her character on Parks and Recreation.

But she's not my type.

No vote.

All you activists out there: is that all right with you or should I have voted down because she doesn't like puppies or something?

What, did somebody offend you because they didn't vote up for Jenny McCarthy?

Sideways for Aubrey.
