Have you considered the possibility of getting part-time work of less than 40 hours per week to supplement your family's income and help out a little with a few of the bills if nothing else? Also, even a part-time job would give you a little bit of extra pocket money that you wouldn't need to rely on your parents to provide you and that little bit of greater financial independence might make you feel a little more confident and self-assured.

Seasonal holiday work is coming up because of the Christmas retail season. It might not be a lasting position, but there might be a local retailer in your area who would be hiring part-time and/or Holiday positions, and many pay above minimum wage. Just a suggestion, dude. A little bit would be better than nothing.

Must be nice to be able to do that, As I work shifts I invariable find myself waking up at the same time each day. Even If I'm not on to the afternoon.
To be fair, I don't get home from work until 4 in the morning, and by the time I wind down and get to bed it's usually 5 or 6am.

So 2am really isn't that late, but I still feel guilty as hell for doing it. I usually reserve it for Fridays.
Well to be fairmany years ago, When I sued to work Afternoons, I would sleep until 10:00 or so. But then again I wouldn't be gogin t bed until 01:00-02:00. Your body adjusts t it. Shame it's not like that when you do various shifts.

And I have done some graveyard shifts (as I would call them when you are working overnight). But not that many, a few weeks worth when I was overseeing a refit overnight. And giving some training in 24hour stores.

Squiggy should have articulated this better so it didn't come off as insinuating anything about your dad, but I don't believe he was actually accusing your dad of being on drugs. I think he was referring to Republican programs in various states that require people receiving welfare or other benefits to be tested for drug use. It's a form of shaming the poor and those in need and treating them like they're low class and criminals without cause.
You win.

Cue the fireworks.

Doesn't mean your parents wouldn't appreciate some help from their son.
If things get really bad for some reason, I'll have to help. As it is, we've been in about the same financial position (with my Dad making a bit more when he could work, but still fairly similar) all my life. We've never had a lot of money, but even when we were surviving purely on my Dad's state money (my mom was unemployed for a bit) we survived without getting desperate, even though its not that much money. We're used to living at a low income.
You could learn computer repair, do some work out of your home on the side. That's what I do, since I take care of my mother 24/7. It doesn't bring in much, but anything helps, and you never know when that extra $15 or $20 might buy food for a few days, right when you need it most.

Amazingly, some people actually care about others not getting screwed, too. In fact, some of us even spend our careers helping other people.

I'd just like to know what kind of response Kirk55555 would get from his parents if he asked them if he should get a job to help out.

Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25 an hour, Washington's Minimum Wage is $9.19 an hour we'll use that number.

Because of the corporate mandate -though delayed a year- anecdotally (though with some personal experience I've seen this actually happen) part-time workers in some companies are being restricted to 29 hours a week so they don't have to be provided with insurance. 29 hours a week times $9.19 an hour is $266.51 before taxes. After taxes it'll probably be around $199. (I went with 25% of the check going to various federal, state and any local taxes. It's about what my checks come out to before the deductions for my 401(k) and insurance)

$200 a week isn't much, sure, but for a family that seems to be living tight it can be quite a bit. It can turn a living day-to-day just to be here to something a bit more enjoyable. Buying the types of foods not covered by food stamp programs, maybe a nice trip to a restaurant or a movie? Hell, upgrade from basic cable to one of the entry-level packages and get a DVR and OnDemand stations. I don't know what individual health insurance costs, $50 a month? $100? Hell making $1000/mo might still qualify you for Medicaid.

And I'm sure the parents would appreciate the help from their adult-son who's living with them.

I suggest moving back onto topic the PPACA and US Government shutdown. Whilst we may disagree with Kirk5555's position, it's not really what this thread is about. Many will have the opinion that there is a difference between those that can't work and those that won't work. But surely that should be left to be debated in a seperate thread.

Well, thankfully you have nothing useful to do in the morning, so that's ok.

What is there to investigate? All the info comes from people who are biased. (...) Thats the truh of the matter for me personally, ignoring all the BS from both sides.
There are countless non-partisan sources who have provided in-depth analysis of the ACA. You seem to have abundant time on your hands, so you can spare thirty seconds for a Google search. Trust me, you will find no shortage of information about the ACA from sources who don't have a dog in the fight.
And some of them are even in this thread. As I've said, living in Italy I get my healthcare from our national health service, and while there are issues here and there, my experiences with it have been outstanding, and it's ranked as one of the best in the world. I have nothing to gain from the ACA, but I fully support it because I have American friends and it's a huge step for the US, trying to address some of the biggest issues in the US abysmal record regarding access to health care.

Also, there's always actually reading the law and thinking with your own head, but I guess that's science fiction.

This is now officially the most depressing thread ever, and we've had people die here before.
I usually avoid playing the armchair psychologist, but if his comments are representative of his actual worldview, sounds like kirk5(...)5 suffers from some kinda of clinical depression. Maybe the ACA will cover it!

Hopefully this horrible horrible policy will be blocked and eventually stopped from every happening. Absolute terrible entitlement that will have a significant role in crippling this country.

Make no mistake, this will help lead towards a worse future for Americans and humankind.
And millions being denied coverage isn't heading towards the worst possible future?

How about situations where health insurers retroactively cancel an insurance policy after the surgery has taken place leaving the patient out of pocket (As one poster on this board can attest).

Maybe you should do some reading before you post again becasue there are millions in Canada, the U.K, Australia, Scandinavia etc etc who have universal health coverage and guess what - we're not suffering for it and we have a lot better health than many many many Americans.
ACA isn't Universal Health Care. Not by a long shot.

What we need to switch to is Universal Healthcare. The ACA is a decent step, but it's definitely not the total solution. Still, for the moment, this is what we have to work with, and I believe it will benefit a lot of people. Hopefully, we can move forward from here.

It would be pretty close to universal, if not for all the red states refusing the Medicaid expansion.
