Actually, there was a study done some years ago demonstrating that wearing a tie slows down reaction time and thinking ability. People still wear them, though.

Re: Just when you think that the world couldn't get any stupider

For bragging purposes, perhaps? A German study from the 70s suggested that a tie is basically an arrow pointing to the male genitalia. Makes sense, considering that jackets have a V-shaped front that underlines the arrow shape, and also taking into account that ties have arrow-shaped ends even though those aren't visible under a vest or jacket.

On Thursday before Ash Wednesday women in parts of Germany hunt men and cut their ties off. It has been speculated that this is a kind of symbolic castration.

Well, my Uncle Joe used to say (and probably still does, for all I know) that women shouldn't be allowed to be president because they might start a war when it's "that time of the month."
But it is a well known fact that women in closed-knit groups (like world leaders - I suppose) synchronise their periods... wouldn't that mean that there would be four days every month where (female) world-leaders would retire to places like Camp David and its equivalents and not start any wars?

Women should not be driving because it can affect their ovaries and pelvises, according to a Saudi sheikh, seeking to explain the country's ban on female drivers.
Sheikh al-Luhaydan, a judicial and psychological consultant to the Gulf Psychological Association, told Saudi website sabq.org that "physiological science and functional medicine [found] that it automatically affects ovaries and rolls up the pelvis.
"This is why we find for women who continuously drive cars their children are born with clinical disorders of varying degrees."
Rest of story here

I don't drive so my pelvis must be fine but most of the women here must have rolled up pelvises. What is that like, girls?
Why is it so easy for me to imagine this coming out of the mouth of a tea party member?

Wouldn't work for world leaders. The group has to be physically close, like living in the same house or dorm. But I like your concept.

People have always used pseudo-science to somehow justify their political agenda. Hitler did it, Creationists do it, and these guys do it. Heck, even some guys who hate 3D films do it.

That would make a hilarious, Woody Allen-style parody.

It seems that Saudi women plan to take to the streets and drive in a mass protest on 26 October. The website announcing this has been blocked in Saudi Arabia though I gather the word is being spread around the country.

True, but as you put it, the concept, was well worth the post

Correct the grammar on those ties and even more women will swoon over you.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go iron my pelvis.
