Skye could be the daughter of Thanos.

That would be Amy from Doctor Who, and Zoe Saldana who are Thanos' daughters.

^I don't think so. Nothing against the actor, who I think is doing the best that can be done with the limited material, but the character just isn't that interesting. At this point, better that character than any of the others.
The show could probably survive the death of any one supporting character, but I think the idea of a character death is the wrong move. So far, this show has been like the antidote to that kind of move.

I think I read a theory somewhere that she might be a version of a similar character from a book called "The Runaways". Apparently there's a non-human orphan girl called "Sky" or something similar. Could just be a coincidence though.
I'm not familiar with that book. Actually, her name probably has no more significance than any of the others.

This was fought out in the courts. Fox sued Marvel over the "X-Factor" TV series. Can't remember what the outcome was.
I believe you mean "Mutant X"? And it was cancelled IIRC.

I was confused when Bucky was on the SHIELD wall of fallen heroes... and that Fitz Simmons and Ward went to SHIELD Academy... I thought that SHIELD was a brand new organization at the time of Iron Man 1? Because Coulson didn't even have the acronym for it yet?

Next thing you're gonna tell me that SHIELD was invented in 2620 BC!!!

According to the One-Shots, SHIELD was organized by Tony Stark's father after WWII.

I know I haven't gotten Bucky's full story over the years, but I never knew him to be in SHIELD.

SHIELD existed back in the 40s. Just something we have to get past.

I figured Steve Roger's gang was considered an immediate precursor of Shield with the military guys and the support from Stark's science branch.

Actually, no. When he named the organization to Pepper, she said it was quite a mouthful and he said "I know. We're working on it." Then later, on hearing it again, Stark said "you really need a new name for that" and Coulson said "Yeah, I hear that a lot."

Maybe what you're thinking of is that he gave the full name a couple of times before finally giving in and saying "Just call us SHIELD." But I don't think it makes sense to assume that he was the first person ever to coin that acronym, because, as Agent Ward pointed out in the series pilot, you don't give an organization a name like "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division" unless you really want its initials to spell out "SHIELD." So there's really nothing in Iron Man to suggest it's a new organization -- just one that hadn't previously come to Tony and Pepper's attention. Perhaps it had maintained a lower profile before the emergence of people like Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, and Captain America compelled it to act more openly.

Yes. As Simmons said here, the SHIELD Science Academy was originally the SSR Academy. The SSR was the group that Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, and Tommy Lee Jones's general character were working for in The First Avenger. They were the direct ancestor of SHIELD, in much the way that the OSS was the precursor of the CIA.

I always wondered about the "LD" in "SHIELD". Saying it's a "logistic division" implies that it is a division of a larger organization. What exactly is it a division of?

The government, presumably. Or since it's portrayed in the MCU as an international body, a division of the World Council. (Though that makes the inclusion of "Homeland" hard to explain.)

Maybe. The mythological Sif does have a daughter, Thrud, fathered by Thor.
