Let's phrase the tech question this way: could a Nimitz-class CVN handle landing an Airbus 380? "Helicarrier 64" and the Bus are apparently comparable respectively in dimensions to those real-world vehicles.

When Coulson came to May after telling Skye about the female SHIELD agent dropping her off, I thought for a moment that we were about to get the revelation that May was Skye's mother. But I guess the agent/possible mother was the corpse in the photo.

I think that, with the appearance of Jasper Sitwell (whose name I keep mixing up with Farley Stillwell, the guy who created the Scorpion), the show has now featured every SHIELD comics character who's appeared in the movies and isn't technically a superhero (like Black Widow or Hawkeye). Plus we get a comics character who hasn't been in the movies, Victoria Hand.
^Almost...they still need a Dum Dum Duggan cameo to complete the set.

As to May's relationship to Skye: I inferred that May was the female SHIELD agent that dropped baby Skye off at the orphanage (or wherever the little tike was deposited) as mentioned in the redacted file. My guess is that Skye's mother was actually May's sister, making her Skye's Aunt May.

Any mention of wheat cakes on the show would have Sony's legal department scouring their Spider-Man licensing agreement for signs of infringement.
I also got the impression that it was May who dropped off baby Skye at the orphanage. Perhaps May even personally knew Skye's real parents. It will be interesting to see what Coulson and May are going to uncover in search of the truth.

I got the impression that the person who "dropped off" Skye was deceased at the time. While it's certainly not impossible that May is the mother, I don't think the scene actually hints that beyond the cryptic way the conversation started and the fact that both May and Skye have asian heritage.

I don't think they would establish May as a mother who would drop of her daughter at an orphanage.
But it's possible she did it, after the mother (and father perhaps) got killed for some reason.
Of course, that would mean, that Skye's parents were a case, which would undoubtably make her a case, too, and might be the whole reason Coulson decided to recruit her into the Team when she popped back up.

Considering there's already a file on Skye and her parents, I think it's safe to say there is a case.

The only thing I didn't really like about this episode was that there were absolutely no repercussions to Jemma shooting Sitwell. You would think there would at least be a stern talking-to.

Otherwise, it was wonderful, as usual. The plot was merely a framework on which to hang all the character interactions. Ward and Fitz bonding (yes, pun intended), Jemma freaking out over Fitz, Sky leading Jemma astray, Coulson's "talk" with May, Coulson reading Sky the riot act over accessing classified data, Coulson reading Hand the riot act for not sharing classified data, and Coulson coming through on his promise to Sky-- somewhat.

It's a shame the ratings continue to erode. We may not get a second season. But at least we'll get one good DVD set out of it, I guess.

VTOL. SuperVTOL.

The bus could land between the lines in a Wallmart parking lot spot..

Well, the bus is comperable to a C-17 with extra wings glued to its ass, because it IS a C-17 with extra wings glued to its ass.

Interesting review Chris Lough posted on tor.com for "The Hub". Might be onto Something there.

Less Skye=more watchable, though I was still disappointed at no Thor tie-in.

^^^The review linked to is correct I think that there's supposed to be some sort of dramatic conflict over SHIELD's true nature. Unfortunately the show has already rigged the outcome by Rising Tide being ineffective; by the Rising Tide honcho be an incompetent hypocrite; by having the pretty face of Rising Tide, namely Skye, reject the Rising Tide critique; by having Skye more interested in personal aims than her politics; by tagging common sense questions as "socialism."

Since the outcome will inevitably favor SHIELD as represented by Coulson and May, if not the current SHIELD hierarchy, all we really have is the dramatic question, do we like Coulson or the guest stars better? No-brainer questions don't make drama.

Miles is not the only Tide member still out there. There may be more sensible members with reasonable critiques to raise waiting to pop up in future episodes.

Skye is the reasonable Tider we've already seen. And SHIELD is run by Samuel L. Jackson. The laws of cool will prevail.

Very good review. I liked the episode, but I appreciated the themes it continues to set up more. However, he did a good job of bringing up the subtleties of the episode in a way that helps make the episode better than I thought it was the first time through. I'm quite impressed (I also missed that Fitz caused the power outage).

Fitz is picking up a bit of guile there, isn't he?
