Re: Jenny McCarthy: Babe of the Week #39 (Sept. 2013)

By the way, for those interested there was a good Frontline a few years ago (2010) about this. I think (not positive) the episode is titled "The Vaccine War." Anyway, there's plenty of full-on McCarthy craziness in it.

It's funny because she was still dating Carrey when it was filmed, and he's right there with her. I wounder if he actually believes that crap too or if he was just trying to get laid.

Anyways, it's probably on Amazon Prime.

Anti vaxxer nutjob.

Physically speaking, she's reasonably attractive, but nothing extraordinary, but her crazy views towards science mean I wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole.

Bring her back if/when she learns to look at scientific evidence and then we'll talk. Until then, keep her far away.

Jenny McCarthy? You've got to be kidding. Aside from her moronic and ignorant views regarding vaccination, she's an overinflated, plastic-boobed bimbo with about as much appeal as a high colonic.

My thumbs are so far down that I only wish I had more thumbs.

It might be possible that the vaccination given to her child caused a side effect that initiated the autism. Who knows though.

We knows. The science doesn't support it at all.

Science used to say being gay was a mental disorder.

I don't think a birther is real concerned about fact-based evidence, though.

No, science didn't, people did based on their own personal conclusions. It was the same situation as this anti-vaxx bullshit. No science supported the "gay mental illness" issue, and none supports an autism/vaccine link. It's pseudoscience taking advantage of a culture of ignorance. Nothing more.

Homosexuality was a DSM level mental disorder until the 1970's when scientific research disproved that classification. Science changes over time as new studies, information, and technology opens new doors.

While present science fin no direct connection between vaccines and autism, there is nothing to say ha in 50 years something won't be found. It could have been the mercury used as a preservative, a bad batch of vaccine, something wrong with the syringes...

And the medical and pharmaceutical industries have so much to loose that they could easily have covered up something along the way...

Make no mistake, she is a dingbat who has caused more harm than good with her positions. I just never take anything science says as a set in stone never to change rule.

You're talking about very different sciences. One is biochemical and fairly easy to recreate in lab settings in order to perform experiments in order to confirm or defy the hypothesis. The other is not similarly testable and is inherently tied to accepted standards of behavior in our society.

First time ever seen a negative result in one of these .

I only know the name, but the immediate association is 'Wakefield/vaccine'.

No, you're describing science replacing ignorance. Saying that science used to say homosexuality is a mental illness is like saying science used to say that lead could be turned into gold.

The only difference is that the belief you could turn lead into gold was an optimistic general speculation that lead to discoveries in chemistry and eventually proved possible through the use of fusion and fission. It is much closer to real science than either labelling homosexuality a mental illness or suggesting that vaccines cause autism, which are assertions that are not only unsupported and disproved, but way too specific and consequential to ever be allowed anywhere near a scientific writing ever.

The autism thing is more akin to suggesting lead turns into gold after ingestion. But who knows, maybe it does when ingested by a Gorn:
