NOW Paramount/CBS releases 'Mork & Mindy-The Complete Series!

It seems that the death of Robin Williams accelerated the release of this complete series set, but why? And why now after he died?

FWIW, here's the set. and where to buy it:

Because more people will buy it out of nostalgia.

Re: NOW Paramount/CBS releases 'Mork & Mindy-The Complete Series!

^But they could have released it when he was alive, due to his popularity in film-he was one of the biggest stars of the last half-century! And Paramount/CBS could also have splurged on extras like interviews with the cast, outtakes, etc. Instead, any bet is it might be a barebones set.

This sounds too little, and too late.

It's not like they knew they had a deadline. They could very well have been planning interviews.

The same thing was done back in 2004 with Three's Company after John Ritter died a year earlier.

Kirby is right. It's nostalgia being capitalized on.

That's true. I bought the first season the week he died.

Which you will sell on ebay now probably, or give away as a Christmas present, since the complete set includes season one, but since it's the only way to get season 3 and 4, you're snookered.

Nah, I'll hold on to it. I haven't finished the first season yet. A little Mork goes a long way.

Re: NOW Paramount/CBS releases 'Mork & Mindy-The Complete Series!

Even though I have never seen an episode of the show, I have been noticing over the past little while that studio's are doing more and more "Complete Series" releases at the beginning of the release for older shows, than waiting till all the seasons are out. Think of how many comments are on the internet saying "well, I'll wait till all the seasons are out", followed by how many TV shows have only received one or two seasons on DVD/Blu-Ray. I think it may be more of a business decision, release it all at once, and if there are any bonus features, have them as exclusives to the Complete Series, and then release bare-bones, or minimal bonuses on the individual season releases. Then that way, if the individual releases are not fully released, the studio's can then say "Hey, we released the entire series---it's out there!", instead of declining sales of the individual seasons leading to no Complete series in either individual seasons or a complete box set.

Look at what Fox did for Ally McBeal, Time-Life/Star Vista is now doing for China Beach --- shows that have a ton of music --- they release the complete series first, with bonuses exclusive to the box set, along with Season 1 on the same day, and then just release the following seasons. That way they are able to justify the high music cost, and put out a high-priced item, and then release lower-cost individual seasons for those who don't want to wait for the individual releases.

Actually, season 3 was released in 2007, and season 4 comes out individually the same day as the complete series. Since I already have the first three, I'll be getting the season 4 set.

I wonder if they would have done this if Pam died?

My Sister Sam is still resting in Limbo.

(The VHS rips on the internet are awful!)

Re: NOW Paramount/CBS releases 'Mork & Mindy-The Complete Series!

Pam was not as big as Robin became, but that still doesn't mean that CBS couldn't have released this a while ago, and also even included extras in it (interviews with the cast, writers, and producers, commentary on certain episodes)-as I said, the main actor was a big star by the time DVD's had come out.

Also, My Sister Sam may not have been as well regarded as Mork & Mindy was and is (I've not even seen it in reruns on TV anyplace-basic cable, OTA TV, satellite, nothing. To date with reference to DVD, this in the only DVD set it's on (one episode on the Warner Bros. 50 Years of TV Commemorative: Volume 2.)
