Re: Your Favorite Paintings

Slightly off topic, but... there's a fascinating article in today's NYT about a newly discovered Van Gogh.

Trekkiedane, the lighting in those Skagensmalere is amazing. I think the top one has just made it onto my favorites list! I'm not crazy about Rockwell in general, but I've always liked The Runaway. Love the colors. And love how the kid probably feels "special today" with all the kindly attention from the cop and the guy behind the counter.

Re: Your Favorite Paintings

Oh my God tsq, you have such awesome taste in art.

Some really good ones have already been mentioned, and I'm having trouble thinking of new ones...so I'll go with one by a less known artist, my grandfather, Bo Erland Alfredsson. I've always been rather fond of this piece by him:

^Thank you!

I loved seeing all the pictures of your grandfather's art in the picture thread, BTW!

Re: Your Favorite Paintings

I really wish I had some more pics of them, I think he may have sold some of the older ones that I really liked.

Joséphine-Éléonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassac de Béarn (1825–1860), Princesse de Broglie painted by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. This is without a doubt my favorite painting. I would go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan and just stare at this for hours.

I'm going to be totally predictable, but this fits the bill.

De sterrennacht, by Van Gogh.

Ooh! I saw this! I stood in front of this and looked at it! We went to that museum pretty much to see THIS painting.

Oh, goodie, an art thread! Surprised haven't seen one in time been here.

Adore Singer Sargent's portraits

Love Paula Rego

Kokoscha

And I don't know where this is from (was a Shostakovich CD cover) but it's such kitsch social realist, I love it...

I’ve always loved the pre-Raphaelites and in particular The Blind Girl by John Millais it’s so beautiful yet so sad at the same time.

You know that you're a Parisian when you think that impressionism is ordinary stuff

My favorite painting might change everyday but today it's something by Georges de La Tour :

I don't know if I could pick a single favorite. I definitely have a special fondness for The Scream. In fact, we're buddies. Here he is visiting my backyard:

Also, almost anything by van Gogh; Wheatfield With Crows in particular. Norman Rockwell's The Problem We All Live With. Liberty Leads The People by Delacroix. American Gothic by Wood, of course. And I do like Nighthawks (I love how TCM turned it into a promo).

HAHA - like that When I said The Scream as my answer, I didn't think others would!

I missed that the first time around. The Hopper-promo's are brilliant though
