IIRC, the set was severely altered for STVI:TUC, filmed between TNG's season four and season five. It was the officer's mess set in TUC.
Forgot about that didn't they use the engineering set from TNG for Star Trek 6 TUC as well ????
With the exception of the bridge, the entire ENTERPRISE-D set stood in for the ENTERPRISE-A in TUC.
And wasn't the office of the Federation president the Ten Forward set?

It's quite fun to play "spot the TNG set" in STVI. Some of them are easy (engineering and the transporter room are practically unchanged), others a little tricker (as you say, only one background wall gives away that the President's office is actually Ten Forward).

For me it was the doors that were the giveaway on the office...

The excuse I had always heard was that Propert's design was too complicated to create in a limited time and budget that had to work with.
"After Probert left the show at the end of the first season, the remaining illustrators weren’t quite sure what the designs that he had prepared were supposed to be for."

"They assumed that they were rejected designs for the Enterprise-D although they noticed the similarities with the Excelsior."

This is one account, I'll try to find the other.

That's what I've always heard as well.

Just got this from a fellow BBS member: http://images.wikia.com/trek-initiat...lost_ships.jpg

I really don't know what these guys are so happy about. Did they tear down the conference lounge's sculpture wall so they could pose with some trophies?

I think the differences between Andrew Probert's Enterprise-C (left) to the one we saw as a VFX model are rather obvious.

It would appear so.

No, they tore down the wall so the set could be redressed for The Undiscovered Country...

Yes, clearly the removal of the ship wall was entirely so that those four guys could take a picture of themselves holding them. It couldn't possibly be them just having a bit of fun while taking them down in order to reuse the set for something else.

I always thought it was a cute touch that the "ships of the line" were restored to the obs lounge for the past segments of All Good Things, making it clear that although their removal from the obs lounge set was a result of real-life necessity (STVI needing to redress the set), it's also clear that it happened 'in universe' as well.

I think it was the other way around. In S1 sickbay was a re-dressed observation lounge and in S2 they built a dedicated sickbay.

I was being sarcastic, but next time I use the proper smilie.

Must have really been fun. Afterwards the conference lounge wall looked as dull as possible with these Goes-Nowhere-Does-Nothing panels, beams or whatever you call these things coming out of the wall.

How about that. I could have sworn that on one of the recent Blu-Ray special features they said it was the other way around.
