Offbeat, weird, and a classic-to-be

UNDER THE SKIN starring Scarlett Johansson. It doesn't include a great deal of dialogue, but the visuals, eeriness and especially the incredible musical score make up for it. The upcoming mainstream summer films will probably prevent a wide-release for this, but many of you will want to seek this out should it be nearby.

I thought UNDER THE SKIN was SPECIES done better. NEVER LET ME GO is also low-profile but outstanding. Your last two are more cloning-oriented, and THE ISLAND, while not great, is CLONUS done better.

Also a huge fan of Michael Caine's 1980 THE ISLAND.

Er, yes, that was the point. What I wrote was, Under the Skin is to Species as Never Let Me Go is to The Island: same basic story ideas, vastly different executions (artsy vs. popcorn blockbuster).

Plus the Scarlett connection. I saw both ISLANDs.....but only once for Scarlett's version, and I remember so little about it. UNDER's playing in only a handful of theaters this moment. Did you catch it yet?

No, it's a rental if anything for me, though I don't doubt that it's one of those movies that would lose a lot if not seen projected, either in a theater or at home, and I'm plum out of home projectors. This thread did, however, cause me to check if Species is on Netflix Instant (alas, no).
