Re: Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

I think, if they go to New Zealand, it should be a two-parter. Hell, have Peter Jackson pick out locations to shoot in and write the episode around that (New Zealand is a cool-looking place). I'm sure it'll be fun. He'll probably get paid in usable currency in addition to that Dalek, though.

Of course, schedules would have to coincide and, given Doctor Who's tendency to struggle at setting a schedule, that could be difficult.

They should film it in The Shire.

I thought Jackson was more interesting in turning The Hobbit into an additional twenty or so films.

Don't be so hyperbolic...everyone knows it's an extra 15 films...sheesh!

Re: Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

Facebook fan page The High Council of Timelords posted this wonderful picture today.

I think it's safe to say PJ really wants to do it.

That's a pretty old picture. (I still want to see one of him in the original 7th Doctor costume he owns, that he wears to play DW with his kids in.)

And there's a big gulf between "wants to do it" and "has commitments to massive movie franchise until the end of next year".

Anniversary special on November 23rd and then the Christmas Special. We don't know when series 8 starts.

The email suggested "New Doctor in September 2014"

And when does post-production of the third Hobbit movie wrap?

Re: Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

I imagine Jackson will be busy with Hobbit-related work, whether formal post-production or publicity, until the last film comes out in December 2014. So that would rule out his working on series 8, if the reports are accurate about that filming from October 2013 to August 2014. But we can rule that out anyway: directors for the upcoming filming will be in place already, not at the "I think it's entirely possible" stage. If the annual production schedule is back on track and series 9 starts in October 2014, Jackson could plausibly be asked to direct something from the second half of that series. That's assuming Moffat is correct in judging that he's serious about it, and that any other wrinkles could be worked out. Even if Jackson genuinely wants to do Doctor Who, he's got a bunch of other film projects in development that might have to take precedence.

Re: Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Series 8 seemed unlikely, but Series 9 not impossible.

I would suspect Autumn next year as well. After all filming might not start until MArch.

Re: Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

Yeah August/September 2014 has been rumored for quite sometime for series 8 to start airing

There's just no way to get 7 episodes out before Easter 2014 and also promote it properly.

A full season by Summer 2014 is nearly impossible
