It's also a non sequitor. Just because Affleck was good in one movie doesn't mean he's good in ALL movies or that he fits the idea of a character with 60-70 years of history and iconism to him.
I'd say you're misreading the cartoon. It's not saying "Affleck will be a good Batman." It's poking fun at the inconsistency and fickleness of the fans, and the way "fan rage" willfully blinds itself to reasons for optimism or uncertainty.
No, I "got" what it was saying but it's still a false thing to say. Affleck may have been fantastic in Argo (even if you describe his character like you would Batman) that doesn't mean people should automatically accept him as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Affleck just doesn't fit the idea people have of Batman and let's face it, Affleck still has a LOT of schlock in his past (I again cite his "teeth acting" in Armageddon and pretty much any scene with emotion in there) and the albatross around his neck with a DD mask on. So, I say people are rightfully bothered by Affleck being put in the role.

I'm not really sure what you mean about Affleck not being a good fit for Batman. You do all realize that it's acting right? You don't need to literally bring Bruce Wayne to life and cast him as Batman. Remember that before Batman, Michael Keaton was Beetlejuice...

Not great, but then that was the least of that movie's problems.

They actually aired it on cable a couple nights ago (probably because of all the Batman hype), and the scene with the CG Daredevil and Bullseye leaping around the church was even more laughably bad than I remembered.

Mind. Blown.

"Not a good fit" means that the person's persona does not strike you as being right to play the role. Regardless of how this thing you call "acting", was it? Works. Acting doesn't mean that a person has the look or persona to play a role. Which is where most people, self included, seem to stand on Affleck. He doesn't seem to "fit" as a Batman.

I mean, hey, Robert Downey, Jr. is a good, famous, actor but I don't think he'd be a good fit to play Scarlett O'Hara in a "Gone With the Wind" remake.

You are going to define what you mean by 'persona' in this context. Are you speaking of the quality of his acting? His height, eyes, voice? Then describe how your definition would affect his ability to play a convincing Batman.

He's playing Batman not Ben Affleck. His persona isn't relevant. His look is fine for playing a good looking guy, as he is a good looking guy.

It's funny you mention RDJr in this context because this is precisely what his character from that Ben Stiller movie a few years back was spoofing.

I just saw a headline on a newsfeed saying that Bryan Cranston will be playing Lex Luthor, but now I can't seem to find it. Stand by...

ETA: Annnd confirmation! Not the link I originally saw, but confirmation nevertheless.

A six picture deal! WB seems to be seriously committing themselves to a DC Cinematic Universe. Good on them! And Matt Damon as Aquaman?

Not sure I would call rumors taken from a poorly written comic book website as conformation.

It's not confirmed until we get a press release from WB.

See, Cranston makes a good Luthor because of the bald thing. And the being evil. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Ahhh, Bryan Cranston. Now there's good casting. And he'll be playing a character far more moral than Walter White.

They should go with Dean Norris instead.

The fact they also quote the idiotic Aquaman story is probably a good indicator that this shouldn't be taken seriously.

And that's certainly not what the cartoon was saying either. It wasn't saying "You have to accept Affleck." It was just lampooning the kneejerk tendency to assume the worst instead of -- and here's a radical concept -- keeping an open mind. It's not about jumping to absolutist, black-and-white conclusions. That's an incompetent way of addressing the future, no matter how much our modern political and cultural climate pushes us to embrace it. It's about having the basic sense to consider both sides of a question and wait and see before jumping to a conclusion.

Years ago, you could've said much the same thing about Robert Downey, Jr. Or Heath Ledger. And people did. They were just as outraged, just as convinced the castings would be disastrous.

Here's the thing: We don't need to assume we know the answer yet. It's wrong to assume that Affleck will be great, and it's wrong to assume that Affleck will be terrible. It hasn't happened yet, so it's foolish to assume anything.
