MENSA begged me to join them, begged me! I told them clubs weren't my thing, I'm an introvert, but they assured me their club was full of special smart introverts . . .
Isn't a club for introverts a bit of an oxymoron? It's like the joke about the support group for agoraphobics. They had to disband because no one was showing up for meetings!

A lot of IQ tests just strike me that way. Someone takes an online test and says, "Oh, 150, I must be pretty smart." They flaunt this number in people's faces when they've got nothing else to show for it like a reasonable degree, a job actually associated with intelligence, or maybe even accomplishments or rewards that would seem to back that up. And even if they might have some of those things, they might be totally socially inept Sheldon Cooper types. To think that a simple number is some sort of measure of a person's worth is silly. There's so much more to it than that.
It's like they say: "That and a dollar gets you a ride on the bus."

The Diogenes Club from Sherlock Holmes was basically a social club for antisocial people.

So, did they have monthly meetings where they all ignored each other except for the occasional glance and disparaging 'hmph'?

Sounds like a great Monty Python sketch to me.

I love Holmes. "I cannot agree with those who rank modesty among the virtues."

Jeremy Brett was fantastic-- definitely tied with Basil Rathbone as the best Holmes.

Though I really like Basil Rathbone as Holmes as I find Nigel Bruce insufferable as Watson and therefore I much prefer the Jeremy Brett series to the Rathbone movies.

I've taken loads of IQ tests but they all want my contact details at the end so I've never known my scores.

I keep a few different email addresses for using when I don't want to give out my real one. They are real addresses, but I just let the inboxes fill up with all the spam from this sort of thing instead of using my own email.

Re: IQ Scores.

Cracks me up how everyone's scores are way above the mean, often by by several standard deviations. The mean is 100, not 150!

A lot of these tests just want the test takers to come away happy.

Yup. But who's going to pay real money to have a professional test them properly?

(I did, but definitely not for fun. It was also not cheap.)

Re: IQ Scores.

^ And, definitely not if it's going to give them the real answer. Most people will come away unhappy if they're expecting a score of 150!

Assuming a normal distribution that has a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15, only 0.04% will have an IQ score of 150 or higher!
