James Avery, Uncle Phil of 'Fresh Prince' dies

I loved his character on that show.
R.I.P. Mr Avery and God Bless.

What a shame. I first knew him from the '80s Beauty and the Beast TV series, and of course I knew his superb voice as the Shredder on the original Ninja Turtles cartoon, Rhodey on Iron Man, Sir Bryant on The Legend of Prince Valiant (all three of which, oddly enough, later had Dorian Harewood take over the role from Avery, and at different times), and a number of others. I always thought he'd make an excellent Klingon, and he finally got to play one, General K'Vagh, in the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

Not Uncle Phil! I liked him better than my real Uncle Phil. Rest in peace Mr. Avery.

He played one of the most real television fathers I've ever seen.

RIP.

RIP. I think of him more as Shredder but he was also great as Uncle Phil. Sad news.

According to StarTrek.com he was one of the finalists to play Worf.
