I hated it at first because it kept reminding me of Patch Adams.

It's kind of grown on me though.

Too bad the series didn't live up to what the intro promised.

Yep, me too. I cringe everytime the jazzed-up version starts playing

Re: Enterprise theme song switch

Just judging it as a song, the opening theme is a good song. I think it's great for wedding anniversaries as others have mentioned, or possibly even a music video in honor of the show, but I definitely would have preferred the instrumental "Archer's Theme" as the show's main opening theme. I put together this version which works better for me, but I acknowledge that I am but one man and I know others disagree:

This is, of course, highly subjective, but I find "Archer's Theme" entirely too slow and ponderous for a Star Trek introduction.

The theme of Enterprise, and particularly its title sequence, was, "FUCK YEAH! WE MADE IT OUT INTO SPACE!!!" That requires a song with major chords and crescendos.

The mirror universe episodes goes this right, since the theme of that title sequence was "FUCK YEAH, WE MADE IT OUT INTO SPACE AND WE'RE GONNA KICK YOUR ALIEN ASSES!"

"Faith of the Heart" had some triumphant crescendos, but starts off very weakly --- so much so, that the first time I saw it, I thought it was a telephone commercial and started leaving the room to get a drink. I would have preferred a more traditional score: something like an arrangement of the First Contact theme with more umph.

Totally agree. They wanted that feeling and they delivered IMO.

I love the IAMD theme. And also this version:

I fully agree. I'm not a huge fan of the singer's voice, but the song is a perfect fit for the premise of the show. I'm not happy with the change they made to the song later on, but whenever I listen to Trek songs, I always listen to the Enterprise theme.

I didn't like it at first, but now I love it. It fits the show really well and separates it from the others. Also the lyrics are perfect for the show's plot.

It IS different from the others so watching the series all back-to-back I was like "whoa what!" when I first saw it. But now I've been watching it for a while and it's grown on me.

I never really felt strongly either way about the theme song. Besides when I rewatch episodes on DVD now, I fast forward over the intro. OK it was the square peg as far as theme songs go, but it wasn't a horrible song. If they took the same melody and made it an instrumental, I bet no one would have minded.
That's exactly what they did for the end credits of the pilot, and I didn't mind. To this day, I prefer that version to the singing one. If they had used that instead, it would have been fine.

I agree it would have been fine as an instrumental, however it's the lyrics that fit the show.

I like it just as well without words though.
I listen to this instrumental version often:

I love the IAMD theme, and would have preferred it for the entire show. However, I'm not dissing the song they used as a song. I like it, especially the first version.

I heard this song on the radio today. At first I didn't recognize it, then I googled the lyrics and found it's actually a Rod Stewart song, I didn't know this.

I don't like the song, I always skip the intro (thank you remote control) and I don't like Rod Stewart either. But the fact that I was hearing the song on the radio just intrigued me.

The song grew on me over time, but I always loved the footage showing mankind's history of exploration, from the oceans, to the skies, to space.
