Sad news. He's the only one of the New Who Doctors to faithfuly resemble the one of the classic series. A loss to be sure, though excited to see who'll replace him.

Seems like just a few days ago it was all over twitter that he was confirmed for 8, and now he's gone after teh '013 Xmas special. WTH?
I thought it was telling that the BBC's announcement of series 8 after "The Name of the Doctor" said nothing about who was involved except for Steven Moffat. To be honest, at this point, I'm not convinced that Jenna will be involved past the Christmas special.
If he isn't that might mean she was the worst companion ever, by default. I'm hoping she stays on so we can learn more about Clara, instead of why there were so many incarnations of her. That and I like what Jenna is bringing to the show and really want to see more of it.

I think Clara is the best companion in a long time, couldn't stand amy and rory. They took over way too much, Clara is good!

Adore Clara. Less clingy than Rose and Martha, less grotesque than Donna and played by a wonderful actress. Getting rid of her along with Matt would be utterly retarded.

If the last episode is any indication, the next Doctor will be 'an old man.'

Yeah she's good, but underdeveloped, which is what I'm saying.

Sad news for sure. Been a great 3 years though, and excited for whoever comes next! Definitely hope Clara sticks around.

It's sad when an actor leaves, but what will be even sadder is when the fans in a year from now will say stuff like Matt Smith Sucked as the Doctor. It seems like that's Dr. Who fandom in a nutshell, when a doctor or companion leaves, the negativity comes out.
What do you mean, "when a doctor leaves"?

I'll miss him, he's been enjoyable in the role. I would've been surprised to see him leave any later than the end of Series, but, it's a bummer nonetheless that he's only got the 2 Specials left (It'd be cool if the Anniversary Special is a 3-Parter: Name of The Doctor/Anniversary Special/Xmas Special)

Definitely would like to see Clara stay on for another Doctor

Probably. :-; It has to be someone available to shoot a regen scene in September and a full season soon after, after all...

What, at Xmas again? Let's hope they can get another good one- remember he doesn't have to be white, or under 30, or male. Though obviously the best female option has already played the part - I mean Joanna Lovely, er, Lumley. Though Alex Kingston would have worked too...

Oh, wait,

Can I start a Tilda Swinton for the 12th Doctor petition?

Anyway...

That should probably have said when the new Doctor arrives. When the Doctor leaves that's more of a sadness, but when we meet the new doctor, I always see the "this is the best doctor ever" posts. The best example was when Tennant was in the prime of his run, people loved him. Now, I get the sense he's not fondly remembered. And let's not count how many instances there's been of bashing RTD because of Moffat lately.
