Wow, I thought I'd posted more recently than October, but apparently not, or at least I can't find it. So please forgive me if some of this is repetitious. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can catch up here.

Turns out I'd probably had a low-grade infection deep in the surgical bed from the very beginning, which is most of why the wound never healed, and in November, it suddenly got really bad. When oral antibiotics didn't help, they put me in the hospital for a week and started me on what turned into three months of IV antibiotics. Meanwhile, in February, the plastic surgeon and neurosurgeon went back in and did a major "wound revision."

All that finally did the trick! I came off the antibiotics and home health care in March and was discharged by the plastic surgeon in April. I just had another set of scans done this week, and there's been no recurrence. In other words, two years (two months and two weeks, but who's counting? ) after the original surgery, I'm still cancer-free.

Next week, I'll be starting physical therapy to strengthen my back. And I've already started looking very some very-part-time work, either paid or volunteer. I'm actually starting not to feel like a professional patient.

Anyone interested in helping me celebrate in a very concrete way, please PM me, and I'll give you a link to my fundraising page at the Chordoma Foundation. (A public "thank you" to the couple of folks who've already donated. You know who you are.)
My God, what an ordeal. I'm so glad you're on the mend.

That's great news Tora! It seems like such a long time ago now that we were posting lots of cat (and other) pictures to cheer you up. To the future.

^Yes. When I was diagnosed, I had been a member for only a year, and I hadn't been very active. The support I got was totally awesome!

Re: Ziyal's medical update :)

This seriously pisses me off...

When I asked the plastic surgeon about the possibility of future problems with the surgical site, he said that people live for many years with as many foreign objects in them as I have, and they don't have problems... until they do. Okay, not what I really wanted to hear, but realistic. Sigh. That was barely two months ago.

A couple days ago, I noticed something suddenly wrong. Either fluid accumulating, or tissue moving around, or something. [insert profanity of your choice] The soonest they can see me in plastics is June 13. I'm supposed to go to the ER if it gets worse in the meantime. [repeat selected profanity]

Apparently I really can't win.

Aw, that sucks (for lack of a better word).

I hope that it does turn out to be a quick fix (as _C_ said).

Take care and be fully well again soon!

Thanks, guys. At least he said it was still okay for me to start PT Friday. Maybe that'll pull me out of the emotional slump that goes with whatever physical is going on.

Aw, man, that's irritating. Hopefully the physical therapist will have something encouraging to say. I hope it's just something minor. Good luck!
