Young Quark and Rom series?

From a convention Armin Shimerman was at in Berlin in 1999:

"But you are the first to hear the following (nobody in the United States knows this): we are very close to finish a cartoon series based on the Ferengi. It will be based on Quark and Rom as teenagers. So I have been working on that."

Was this improperly translated or was there really a cartoon in the works?

That's the first I ever heard of this. Most of the other interview stuff seems like stuff Armin would say though. Maybe it was early in the planning phase and got canceled? I can't picture a Ferengi cartoon set on Ferenginar with naked women being too kid friendly though.

You know, I almost certain Shimerman was only talking in jest, but at the same time I can totally imagine such a show. I have never been a great fan of the Ferengi as a culture specifically, but a series focussing on Quark and Rom as kids I would totally watch!

Also, I'm curious how this cartoon would have looked. Considering the decade and the source material, an animation style similar to what they did on shows like Batman: The Animated Series or Silver Surfer would have been possible. I would love to see production art for this!

I love the Ferengi but this sounds awful.

Re: Young Quark and Rom series?

That sounds absolutely dreadful. Luckily, it was probably a joke.

I am pretty sure that was a joke.

That said, I would watch it anyway no matter how awful is it.
