Richard Petty

As a driver in NASCAR Richard Petty is career leader in wins with 200 and was the first driner to win 1 million dollars in his career, for a long time he was the leader in career earnings but eventually he was overtaken as the leader in career earnings.
Who was it that overtook Petty and when did it happen?

Re: Richard Petty

Good guess but wrong, Richard Petty was the career money leader until the Goodys 500 in September 1985 when Darrell Waltrip took the career money lead by finishing second behind Dale Earnhardt.
(Finding that out took a lot of googling!
