Re: STID "tracking" for $85-90 million opening [U.S. box office]

The questions are...

How will it open in the dozen countries left?

And in the US, what will the final figures be?

230 or 240 MM?

Although action isn't my preference, I don't mind STID being an action film. I just want it to be a good film. Is that too much to ask? Just because it's an action movie doesn't mean there has to be huge plot holes, terrible dialog ect.

Action or not, STID was terrible.

Some reviewers are now calling it "Star Trek Into Dumbness." A fitting title.

And most reviewers have loved it. It's rating on "Rotten Tomatoes" is still very respectable. I've seen it four times now and have new things to like about it each time. Is it perfect? No. What ST movie is?

I thought Shatner's ST V was pretty dumb most of the time; others say it's their favourite ST movie.

Which reviewers are those? Rotton Tomatoes has it at 87% based on critics reviews and 92% base customer ratings.

All good news!! STID will match ST09's WW 4 months of release total in about a month within a few days. Last week I said it would likely hit between $360-370 million by monday, but it has already surpassed that!

That's not good news, it's bad news. The more successful the movie is financially the more likely it is that they'll make more. I was hoping the movie would be unsuccessful financially, because then maybe they'd finally stop making them. I'd rather they simply air re-runs of Picard walking around his ready room explaining the finer points of his moral and ethical values calmly and politely instead of another two hours of explosions, loud noises, and flashing lights.
Well, they still air reruns of that. Have at it.

A quick Google uncovers several bloggers sharing that satirical title:
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=%...ient=firefox-a

But even the first such infamous review, on Io9, starts off the piece by saying:
"The new Star Trek movie isn't a terrible film."

Given the colossal wit and humor necessary to come up with such a groundbreaking insult, I suspect that we're dealing with the some of the finest middle school newspaper critics in the business.

I liked the content.

I personally don't give a flying fuck about the box office of a film.
I do. If it makes money, I get more movies like it.

It's still kinda disappointing to me that the one ST film the "spoke" to the inner Trekkie within me, in December 1979, was ST:TMP - and yet when I tried to discuss it with diehard Trek fans, friends, work colleagues or family members, they dismissed as being slow and boring or "not real Star Trek". I wanted to chat Trek and had to live with naysayers telling me I didn't know quality.
It's not Star Trek when it's slow and intellectual and it's not Star Trek when it's fast and action-packed. You can't win with these guys.

I know that it's gotten favorable reviews, which is one of the reasons why I was so surprised at how bad it was.

The only Trek film worse was Nemesis.

Wonder how much the legs will go

$230ish US total.
Wonder how the 176.4 international figure stacks up against 09?
Well 09 being what $127m total oversea's and Paramount has said it could go up to $290m though I think $250m is probably the highest it will go.
Yep. The overseas total will probably more than double ST 09. Paramount will be very pleased with that market growth. We will definitely be seeing a sequel.

The Undiscovered Country was pretty close to being perfect IMHO.
