Taco flavored Doritos
Where are you? I'm in Los Angeles and I see Taco Doritos at the grocery store all the time.
I'm in Florida. They started selling them again in the retro bags about a year or so ago. Six months ago they disappeared again. I can't find them anywhere.

I haven't seen them in stores in a long time, either.

One of these days, I expect to see an oil drum of DG brand root beer for $3.

Some things are regional, so it's hard to know if it's been discontinued or not.

I miss:

Campbell's Chunky - Chicken Mushroom Chowder (though I scratch-make something very similar) - been gone for several years

dnL - a green, lime flavored 7up with caffeine - they only made it one year

good Swiss Creme brand soda - it's not the same as it used to be, so it might as well be gone

Dean's Extra Rich Egg-Nog - used to be in the dark blue quart bottle - haven't seen it in years, only the regular & lean ()

Vanilla creme Pop-Tarts - the ones with vanilla inside & on top - they come back once in a while, then disappear again

I really miss McDonald's cherry pies. Apparently some locations have baked cherry pies (I haven't seen any), but I'm not talking about those. I mean the original version. They, and the apple pies at the time, were fried I think, or at least not baked like they are now.

Also, Twinkies.
One word: Lawsuits. More words: Originally, the words "Caution: Filling is HOT" were not on the box; then someone sued & McDonald's put it on the box; then some idiot got burned anyway and-- you guessed it-- sued. In the mid-90s, McDonald's switched to a baked pie which was "healthier, because it is not fried" and cooled more rapidly after baking due to the slits cut in the crust (cannot do that with a fried pie). I watched the video created for franchisees which explained all this, back then. One of my friends is the local franchise owner.

Sounds to me like what is known in Germany as Apfeltasche (for apples) and Kirschtasche (for cherries).

Yup, that would be it. I'm annoyed now. Why on Earth would McDonalds have that available in one part of the world but not another?!?
See above explanation.

cheese balls. Like a cheesie only ball shaped.

btw, my canadian local walmart has never been out of twinkies. I wonder if they were never manufactured by hostess here in the first place.
http://www.utzsnacks.com/store/p-484...ese-balls.aspx
I get them at WalMart locally for $5.48 each. The grandchildren and my best friend's children love them. I recently discovered that Bestie's kids will ONLY eat them at my house... along with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. True story: she bought them for kids & they refused to eat them. She brought the barrel to my house & kids ate them up... go figure!

McDonald's steak, egg and cheese biscuit (which also had grilled onions and coarse ground black pepper). Not a bagal or croissant and no breading on the steak.

Jimmy Dean's sausage, egg and cheese griddle cake sandwiches.

Green onions on Taco Bell's Nachos Supreme and Mexican Pizza. They could at least substitute regular onion,

A regional grocery chain's twenty ounce bottled cola. I live by myself, larger bottles are too much for one sitting and I want more than a twelve ounce can. The eight ounce cans the chain started selling when they discontinued the twenty ounce bottles are barely more than a taste.

TV dinners that had actual pieces of chicken in them (not a breaded, molded ground chicken patty).

This is what satisfies my occasional craving for fried chicken TV dinner.

Do they still make boxed candies which have booze in them?
In North Carolina they are sold in most ABC Stores (run by Alcohol Beverage Control board).

As for me, I do love the Mint 3 Musketeers bar, although I rarely ever eat candy.

I recently found a store that carries my favorite candy from childhood: Claey's "Old Fashioned Hard Candies" Sassafras and also the Root Beer barrels.

McDonald's Big Mac. Don't laugh... in the mid-90s McDonald's started RMS (Regular Menu Staging). Instead of cooking them fresh, they pre-cook the meat & put it in a staging hot box. When ordered, the sandwich is assembled & boxed, then placed in a microwave. Unless you know someone who owns a McDonald's (and he's in the store, and he's in the mood) you can still get one made the old-fashioned way... mmmm... heaven on a bun!!!

Wendy's French Fries... before they switched to the new kind, which are nasty. Wendy's screwed up perfection on this one!

Old Coca-Cola. After New Coke's disaster they reformulated to make Coke Classic which is sweeter than Good Ole Coca-Cola. I miss it. All colas made now are too sweet to me... even diet colas.

While they may be available elsewhere, I don't have access to one: A & W Root Beer Stands. It was a drive-in (think Sonic before Sonic) where you could get a Root Beer in a frosted mug. I've tried numerous times to re-create it, but nothing tastes the same to me.

p.s.- Awesome thread!

Fizzies. In the 1960s, they were a flavored tablet dropped into tap water to make a soft drink. Pretty bland as I remember, and the worst root beer flavor ever. They became carbonated and dissolved in water like Alka-Seltzer. You could put a cherry one on your tongue and it looked like your mouth was bleeding. Fun times.

Does it have more filling than Double Stuf?

[Edit] I see that it does. Looks like it was a limited edition product too.

You can still buy them online. I'm pretty sure.
