I... just can't see Gates McFadden pulling that off.

Besides, wasn't Pulaski basically a female version of Zimmerman?

Pulaski annoyed me with how condescending she was towards Data over season 2, but beyond that she's not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. She was a nice bit of tension to the otherwise sterile environment that was TNG drama.

I know. Ryan channeled the EMH just fine but I don't see McFadden doing it either

Gates was a choreographer for some Jim Henson films, I suspect she could easily do Picardo's physical mannerisms. Though his vocal delivery might be hard for her to mimic even with him coaching.

I was just thinking. The Doctor was programmed with the knowledge and experience - and, conceivably, personalities - of 47 (there's that number again) medical officers. Do you think it's probable that one of them was Leonard McCoy?

I'd say it's more than likely. They both have similarly grumpy personalities, and the same dry sense of humor. And then there's the frequent use of the "I'm a doctor, not a..." line. Plus Lewis Zimmerman's pet iguana's name was Leonard. Obviously, a lot of the Doc's personality is based on Zimmerman himself. But I like to think that Zimmerman had a certain admiration for McCoy, and programmed the EMH with certain aspects of his personality as well.

What do you think? Too much of a stretch?
Definitely. Especially with the The "I'm a Doctor, Not a (Fill in the Blank)"

Picardo's Doctor reminds me of local sports writer Paul Finebaum

I'm sure that Leonard McCoy is remembered and admired in the same way as Kirk and Spock and that his personality and knowledge have been used when The Doctor was programmed.
