Mashup songs

Anyone else a fan of mashup songs? I found a couple of amusing ones tonight.

When I was a kid we called these type of songs "medleys"

Re: Mashup songs

Medleys and mashups are quite different beasts. A medley is when you sing one song followed by another and another. A mashup is when you take two songs and mix or interleave the lyrics and melody of both songs together.

Re: Mashup songs

These are two of my favourites:

Moloko vs Elastica

PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Bjork, Massive Attack

and less a mashup than sample, but one of the most sublime and original samples IMNHO:

Mos Def and Aretha Franklin

Sorry, no YouTube video, but I really like Michael Jackson vs. The Who.

Re: Mashup songs

As a Beatles and Oasis fan, I really like this one:

I wish it used the superior guitar solo from the album version of "Let It Be," though.

Re: Mashup songs

Does Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" count as a mashup of "Werewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama"? If so, I like that one.

Re: Mashup songs

One of my favorites is a mashup by DJ Earworm called If I Were a Free Fallin' Boy (Freefallin' by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Beyonce's If I Was a Boy).

Re: Mashup songs

And this one is so good that it actually changes your perception of both songs, as if they had always meant to be together:
