An old hippy friend named his son Luke. His last name is Walker.

Yup, his middle name is Sky...
That is the best thing ever.

That kid better be grateful!

I think just an initial is needed. Then you get to keep people guessing about what your full middle name is and irritate the hell out of them by telling them they're wrong every time.

Up until I hit about 17/18 I hated my middle name, really hated it, then I started to appreciate it, I love the way it makes my name flow, and given it's my dad's name it's a nice reminder of him to always carry around with me

It's Reginald by the way, you can laugh it's ok!

Ha, thanks Teacake! It is The African Queen. Glad you like it!

Thanks to Nerys Myk's Picard, and I added Janeway.

I don't have a second name. I am deeply and bitterly envious of you all.

Re: If you are in the process of deciding a middle name for your child

I think the middle name is a good place to use some first name from inside the family. My middle name is my father's first name, my brother's middle name is the name of one of my mom's brothers. I'd likely do something along those lines. Really, the middle name is something only brought up at parties or in cases where it's really needed to distinguish an identity from a like-named person.

I tend to agree, and that's kind of what my family does, at least with the male members anyway. My middle name is my paternal grandfather's first name (and my first name is my maternal grandfather's first name). My older brother's middle name is my dad's first name, and his son's middle name is his own first name.

Nah my dad was Reg, I kinda prefer Reginald, plus I forgot to add, what someone said up-thread is true, you're never in as much trouble as when you mum calls you by your full name

I want to have 12 boys, name them all Big, and use the apostles for their middle names.
