Science Fiction Liquor

Hi friends! My boss' sister is doing research into alcoholic beverages in science fiction. She has Trek and Hitchhiker's guide pretty well-covered, but is looking for more. My boss, knowing I'm a nerd, asked if I knew any, and I thought I'd put the question to the experts. So, know of any good non-Trek alcohol I can share? Any sci fi book, movie, comic, tv show, radio show, etc is acceptable.

Thanks!

Off the top of my head there's ryncol from the Mass Effect games, a whole slew of food and drink from B5, fellip nectar from Farscape, spice beer from the Dune books...umm....mudder's milk from Firefly? That's all I got.

Babylon 5 has the fantastical drink called "Zima."

Re: Science Fiction Liquor

You guys are great. I found out more about the project. The woman is an art historian and the research is related to that -- alcohol in popular fiction, I guess. I thought of butterbeer too, but I think HP falls strongly in the fantasy genre rather than sci-fi. I've been email your responses to my boss, thanks for the help!

TOS Battlestar also had the obscure Buzzer adult beverage that was like homemade moonshine. Additionally, TOS also had the more generic (and not too imaginative) Ale, Grog and Vignon.

If you want to get into the harder stuff, there was also Smoking Plant Vapors that I'm guessing was like Colonial weed.

NuBSG has a bunch as well.

Farscape had a drink called "fellip nectar." After Aeryn drinks a beer for the first time, she says it tastes like fellip nectar, which comes from the planet Tarsus.

In A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, Alex and his droogs drink at the Korova Milk Bar. The milk is laced with vellocet (an opiate), synthemesc (synthetic mescaline), drencrom (adrenochrome), and other drugs. Technically not liquor though...I guess.

ETA: of course, there's already a web page: http://scifi4me.com/2011/05/16/the-l...ience-fiction/
