Yes. And then you could shove them back in there when you were done playing with them.

I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin until my parents saw the cost for the doll along with all the necessary audio cassettes and accoutrements.

Plus, he was waaay too creepy after I saw him in action up close.

I was obsessed with LEGO and I wanted to buy really expensive ones with my own money (so just about everything I had!), like Star Wars ships.. or something like that. My parents wouldn't let me because they thought I'd get bored of it before long. Sure enough, within a year or two I was less obsessed.

It's so funny you mention that, because my sisters and I used to do exactly that! She had a puppy surprise and we both loved matchbox cars, so they were often combined. As well as the matchbox cars and Barbies.

I LOVED my Teddy Ruxpin! To this day I think he is likely to blame for my disproportionate affection for dirigibles.

For some reason I backed off from wanting him after getting a chance to play with one. He was an obsession before that, but my parents weren't going to buy him anyways....if I was going to get one it would have come from a grandparent, friend or extended family.

Nowadays you could download content into him through a USB port in his back, which means you could probably program a 2013 Teddy Ruxpin to say or sing anything if the mechanics permit his mouth to mimic any sound being emitted.

Does 14 count as a child? I wanted Marta Kristen from Lost in Space. I wouldn't have known what to do with her, but I still wanted her. All my siblings were over 18 and out of the house by the time I was 3.

When I was 5, I wanted one of those pedal-cars like my friends had. They looked like these (50s styles):

One kid had one that looked like a firetruck, with a cargo area and little ladders on the side. I had some 3-wheeler thing that looked like a damn farm tractor.

You know what I never liked about Teddy Ruxpin? His last name. I just don't like the way it sounds, I always got creep vibes from it.

Well, if we're going that route, at that age I wanted Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) from The Avengers. I'm not sure I would have known what do with her either.
