Why was Shatner at the Oscars? What was the point of it? I know MacFarland is a Trek fan (didn't he appear as an extra in ENT?), but Shatner, at the Oscars? WTF?

Meh. At his age, he can be as fat as he wants. I just want to know whether this was a predestination paradox, a classic travel within his own timeline, the creation of an alternate timeline or a Kirk from a timeline where he didn't meet Picard in the Nexus, or…
