Re: Abrams: Star Wars AND Star Trek
Same. But it and "Q Who?" are really the only standouts of the season IMO. While there was nothing in the first season that was equally as good, there were several more episodes I'd rate as "better than average" than season two. If that makes sense.

Re: Abrams: Star Wars AND Star Trek
As for what it means to the Star Trek franchise? Well, why should Abrams care about that. He flat out said he wasn't a Star Trek fan before he made ST09, so if the renewed interest his movies generated crashes and burns, what does he care? He's got a great gig either way.

Except he does care if not for any other reason than he's a professional. But beyond that, his name is forever attached, so anyone with half an ounce of common sense knows he has some degree of personal pride involved to ensure it continues to be a success.

Re: Abrams: Star Wars AND Star Trek
Abrams doesn't seem to be personally competitive with other filmmakers, but if Into Darkness exceeds the success of his first Star Trek movie as greatly as Hollywood people talking to the press seem to be assuming it will then his little trilogy here gets into pretty rarefied territory. He doesn't want to be the guy who fumbled his third movie.
