I'm one of those who want to go strictly off the evidence from the new films and comics, and have thus concluded that the Abrahmsverse was always a parallel universe, not only after 2233 was the filmmakers intent. This lends even more evidence to that theory.

I'm afraid it very much doesn't. No matter how far you go back, there is no quirk of the multiverse that would explain how an indigenous civilization 6000 years old would be replaced or recreated by such a close facsimilie caused by a Starfleet ship crashing there 100 years ago.

But Christopher already explained it: The civilisation is 100 years in both universes. Kirk Prime just was told a false story.

^Exactly. As I said, just because something was claimed and believed by all the characters in an episode, that doesn't guarantee that it's actually true. What the comic is evidently claiming is that what we thought was the case in "The Return of the Archons" was actually a lie, and that Kirk Prime just never uncovered the truth.

And let's face it, the comic's interpretation does explain why this supposedly alien civilization has 12-hour clocks with Arabic numerals and has fashions and architecture that exactly match historical American designs.

Haven't others said there's more to the differences than just Kirk Prime not digging deep enough? I don't know because I've not read it either, but I thought someone had breifly talked about other big differences that can't line up.

But they never mention exactly what is IN the valley. It doesn't have to be another city or settlement. There could be other reasons why people would be out there. Especially if Landru had so indoctrinated the population that they didn't think to question anything at all (even those who weren't of the Body).

I know you can't take a comic book cover as definitive proof of anything, but it looks like everything is back where it was at the end of the first movie. All the crew are there and the Enterprise looks fine.

For those wondering, April did indeed command another Enterprise which was decommissioned two years earlier. April himself commanded the ship twenty years earlier and was believed to have been killed in action.

So assuming the "20 years" figure to be accurate, and not either rounded or just plain wrong (like the age of the Enterprise in TSFS):

• April's Enterprise-α was commissioned sometime between 2233 (earlier would be a violation of Prime canon) and 2240.
• April became captain sometime between commissioning and when he was lost - earlier is "better", to give him more time to build up enough of a legend where Kirk recognizes the name.
• April was lost between 2238 and 2240.
• Countdown to Darkness takes place sometime between 2258 and 2260.

I hope we find out more about April's Enterprise, how it came to be, and how it's different from his Enterprise as depicted (apocryphally) in Diane Carey's books...

All we really know is that April commanded his Enterprise twenty years earlier. We have no actual indication of when that ship was first launched. Indeed, given the fifty year lifespans of most Navy ships today (like Enterprise CVN-65) it's possible that it could have been originally launched sometime 2206 or so if it was decommissioned in 2256.

Of course, that is before the timeline split meaning that even in the Prime Timeline there would have been another Enterprise between the NX-01 and the original 1701. And that of course goes against canon.

I'm going with this comic being in early to mid 2259 (based on the stardate given in the 10-minute preview of STID).

My thought is that April's Enterprise in this universe was the ringship version. However, maybe in this universe, he was given command in 2233 or some point soon after. Perhaps the ship was upgraded after the Kelvin's destruction and it served as more than a spaceliner.
