I have a theory about A Fistful Of Datas

Okay, I got an itch to watch Trek Westerns, so I did North Star from ENT (which is pretty awesome IMO) and Spectre Of The Gun from TOS (which has a stupid set up but a kind of cool minimalist Twilight Zoney kind of vibe) and then A Fistful of Datas from TNG. Now the episode is not bad. It's fun and it's nice that they offer some kind of an explanation for why the holodeck fubars this time. Also I love the coining of the term "The Ancient West". Buuuut...

Are they fucking morons? Hey I've got a great idea, let's take a radical new idea like using Data as an emergency backup for the ships computer (computers really as anyone who has read the tech manual knows the ship has three computer cores) and shall we test this by starting out with a shuttlecraft? Hell no let's just plug him right into the ship. What's the worst that could happen? Ooops.

Well here's my theory, remember when Geordi and Data come in to explain the idea to Picard? Remember how eager he was to have them leave?

Well what we fans were shown was that he was playing his flute, but I suspect that what he was really doing was looking at space porn on the computer terminal and was "playing his flute" if you know what I mean. He was close to the climax of the piece and suddenly robodork and the great cosmically unlaid are there killing his buzz.

So desperate to finish the symphony *wink wink nudge nudge know what I mean* Picard doesn't think the ramifications of this potentially disastrous idea through and hey presto congratulations you damn near end up killing your chief of security.

The only thing I was pretty impressed about is how they created a personal shield that lasted for like 10 seconds out of a communicator badge.

That's some radical advanced shit there to be able to do that.
Top Gear America: Jay Leno, Adam Carolla, Tim Allen. DONE!
