Re: The Snowmen Grading and Discussion Thread

To me The Doctor is too weird and alien to mope when he can't see his friends again. In fact, if he were the type of person to miss people then he's living the precise wrong lifestyle really as he's never going to have any constant presences in his life apart from the TARDIS. It's also just messed up that he's cool when Adric dies yet becomes a hermit when Amy and Rory merely get separated from him in time.

It's just naff soap opera drama to appeal to a wider audience of casuals who would otherwise have no time for sci-fi or fantasy. Thankfully this type of stuff has been toned WAY down since 2010 but there's still enough to bother me.

My favourite Doctor is McCoy precisely because he'd never do something like this. The Doctor shouldn't have human emotional vulnerabilities and should have the perspective of a Time Lord.

Finally an episode where I feel that we're "back" to the Doctor Who I know and love. Last year's Christmas episode was useless. This years was fantastic even though the way those snowmen were defeated was meh, the rest of it had me gripped and shockingly, my family too. A lot of talky scenes but they were good talky scenes and those Sherlock references were heaven. Matt Smith's face in the opening titles, f(xmas)king awesome!

Ditto that, I'm only about 12 minutes into it, but it DOES feel a bit like Classic Who. Awesome. And Jenna-Louis Coleman is frakkin' hot!

Nice touch.

I think I've been run over by a cab!

At least we know that this is Strax after AGMGTW, if only vaguely. This makes me happy.

Hmmm. Didn't have much of a classic feel for me. Pace was too fast and Murray Gold too prominent. Still a good atmosphere in parts though and I dug it.

And Jenna-Louis Coleman is frakkin' hot!
Sexiest companion ever along with Romana I. Droooooooooooooooooool.

Oh, that was the best. Wonderful.

I agree with what you're saying in that I too, feel that the Doctor has become far more touchy-feely and emotional since the show's return in nearly a decade ago. Tom Baker was my favorite; he conveyed just enough quirkiness and distance at times from his companions to be believably alien.

The One-Word Test was the best scene so far. I find I'm liking this Christmas Special better than any of the previous ones.

Agreed. Hell, Tennant seemed to spend 50% of his screentime in tears.

It's to make the character more relatable to audiences in order to get the huge ratings the show gets but it's a bit annoying really. I love The Doctor because he isn't a conventional TV hero that cries when his love interest is gone. He's... weird. And that's fine.

no, we didn't
And we won't. They haven't yet, with the exception of a hallway, and they won't start now.
