Episode/Novel checklist

I've been thinking for a while now that with all of the episodes and movies pretty much available at a moment's notice now, it might be fun to set up a thread that has a list of which episodes it would be good to watch before you read certain novels.

Destiny:
Borg:
TNG: Q, Who?
The Best of Both Worlds Pts. I & II
TNG movies: First Contact
VOY: Scorpion Pts. I & II
Omega Particle: Voy:
The Omega Directive
Capt. Hernandez & the Columbia:
ENT: Home
Affliction
Divergence

Vanguard:
Klingons:
TOS: Errand of Mercy
Romulans:
Balance of Terror
Capt. Kirk & the Enterprise:
Where No Man Has Gone Before
Tholians:
The Tholian Web
Carol Marcus:
TOS Movies:The Wrath of Kahn (spoilers)
Nimbus III:
The Final Frontier

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

Awesome idea. I was just thinking of this the other day but the other way around. It would be interesting to have a list of every episode with the novels that are related to it. 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' for instance would have the My Brother's Keeper trilogy and Vanguard: Harbinger.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I intended for this to be a community project, so feel free to add stuff as you think of it.

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

Good idea for a thread, JD. From my recent reading...

Immortal Coil (TNG)
  • TOS: "What Are Little Girls Made Of?"
  • TOS: "I, Mudd"
  • TOS: "Return to Tomorrow"
  • TOS: "The Ultimate Computer"
  • TNG: "Datalore"
  • TNG: "The Schizoid Man"
  • TNG: "The Measure of a Man"
  • TNG: "The Offspring"
  • TNG: "Brothers"
  • TNG: "Birthright, Part I"
Losing the Peace (TNG)
  • TNG: "Future Imperfect"
  • DS9: "Let He Who is Without Sin"

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

Probably not exactly what you had in mind, but due to my most recent Trek read being
How Much For Just the Planet? (TOS),
  • (TOS) "The Trouble With Tribbles,"
  • (TOS) "I, Mudd," and
  • (TOS)"A Piece of the Action"

may be good reminders that Trek is, at times, silly!

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

For Destiny, I would add the last episode of Voyager as a "should watch before reading" episode as well.

Before reading the Cold Equations Trilogy, watch the TNG movie Nemesis.

"Khan," not "Kahn." As in "Genghis."

(Sorry. Pet peeve--for obvious reasons!)

I tried to address these, but it won't let me edit anymore.

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

What episode would it be best to watch before I read the Eugenics Wars books? I know they brought in a ton of stuff from a bunch of different 20th Century episodes, and there's a lot of them I don't remember that well. I already plan on watching Assignment: Eternity and Space Seed.

Those two are the biggies, of course. I managed to reference most of the 20th Century eps, but sometimes just as a cute in-joke or cameo. You might want to check out "11:59," the VOYAGER ep about Janeway's ancestor, since Shannon O'Donnell figures rather prominently in Book Two. Also, "The Neutral Zone," that first-season TNG ep where they find three survivors of the 20th Century in suspended animation.

Also: "Little Green Men," the DS9 episode set during the Roswell incident.

Re: Episode/Novel checklist

Thanks. I'll definitinly be checking out 11:59 before I read the book. I don't remember a thing about that one.
Damn, I just remembered that they marked the E-book way up, so I'll be waiting to see if it goes back down. I had planned on it being one of the next books I bought, but not any more.

I just watched those during my Netflix Voyager rewatch, so I'm good there.
