It's so simple I can't believe none of you have hit on it. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Kara, and she's stolen Spok's brain.

Waitaminute, didn't we see a Federation ship underwater in Insurrection?? Why was that allowed, but the Enterprise itself isn't?

I can give the Enterprise under water a pass.

I just write it off as a timeline change thanks to Enterprise/Nero, maybe more resources were pumped into starship development and advancement due to what happened with Nero, much like what happened with the Borg/Dominion threat in the 24th century.
I don't get the need to justify it like that. Just because we never saw the Enterprise go underwater in The Original Series doesn't mean it wasn't capable of doing so, whether designed for it or not. As far as I know, there's no counter-evidence at all.
Exactly. We never saw the Enterprise separate either, but apparently it was able to.

The Xindi Aquatics have taken over. They had huge ships with water inside and out.

We also never saw the Enterprise transform into mega maid. As far as I know, there's also no counter-evidence.

Kirk never ordered her to go from blow to suck.

One preview said that Cumberbatch's mystery villain approached the family at the hospital offering "healing abilities" to help with their daughter. Which character, if they are, from the series had those kind of powers or access to them?
Lord Garth
Nope.
I'm really hoping it is Garth now, if only so you and your annoying little one word drive by comments will be wrong.

It's not Garth, it's not Mitchell, but Legionella knows the answer. When the film comes out, he will say "I knew it all along!"

Looks like the Galaxy class starships were built in part on the Martian surface, so what was done in Abrams' Trek isn't totally new.

I don't expect it to be bad, but come on. The first several minutes of any movie can be good, while the whole thing goes off the rails halfway through, or at the climax.
That happened to Sunshine, but I can't recall any other instance where a movie fell apart like that.

I also like how this throws to the garbage bin TNG's approach of "we must stand by while the pre-warp aliens are horribly killed due to the prime directive".
Kirk gets in some trouble with Pike for one thing that he does here.
Considering Spock fights the villain at some point so unless the movie is a big flash back he isn't dying in the volcano, and the teaser has the Enterprise rising out of the water, Kirk is probably in trouble having the Enterprise fly over to the volcano in full view of the natives.

Which is understandable as it one thing to save a pre-warp culture without them knowing about it since it would likely have little effect on them, its another to do so while letting them get a good look at you doing it and even seeing your spaceship at the same time.

Flux, you're not obligated to respond each and every time, nor to take personally comments clearly not intended as such. Just chill out.

Also, if you look back, you'll see that Legion has, in fact, explained his reasoning on a number of occasions, even if you didn't happen to be present at the time.

Maybe in another thread, but I've seen no explanation as to why it *isn't Garth* here. If he knows something about the film we don't, then fine...but if he's just as clueless as the rest of us, this know-it-all attitude with little to no explanation is really irritating.

And I haven't responded "each and every time" I've brought up how that type of a post can be annoying only twice now to two different posters.

While I understand what you're saying, and I don't have a dog in this fight, I personally find it a bit more annoying for Legion to just pop in and repeatedly post one-word replies like "Nope." Even if he does have a basis for thinking it's not Gary Mitchell or Khan or whoever, these one-word replies add nothing to the discussion and come off as a bit arrogant.

All IMHO and worth what you paid for it.

Well:

Hes the villain

He says we think our world is safe.. implying it isn't
He stands around hospitals offering to cure sick children
He has superhuman strength and abilities
Can be captured and held in a brig
Can be punched in the face
Has to run away from someone in the trailer
Appears to be in Starfleet
Possibly takes command of a starship
Detonates the fleet and is or has some form of WMD

The leaked fight footage also shows he can take a nerve pinch and phaser blast within a couple of minutes and shrug off both. So...no idea.
