The Saturday night sale thrilled famed car customizer George Barris, who first bought the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car for $1 from Ford. He then transformed it into the Batmobile in 15 days with a budget of $15,000, according to auction notes from Barrett-Jackson.

One would think that would be something the writer would try to elaborate upon...

I daresay most of us are at least passingly familiar with the history of the Lincoln Futura, how it came into George Barris' possession, and how it was transformed into the Batmobile. It's part of maintaining our geek cred.
