Gah, I gave up trying to work this out when Urban said Cumberbach was Mitchell and Orci said that Mitchell is not in the film. I'll wait and try to avoid spoilers, and hopefully get a pleasant surprise.

I don't know if it's just me but, from the little we can see of that handshake, it seems that Spock in the blue shirt is fine and whoever is in the black uniform is in trouble or about to die.

Black Uniform....Cumberbatch? Maybe a exposition or flashback to when Gary Mitchell "died" before coming back? Maybe his "death" is the reason for the Missing Man formation in the trailer, and the outdoor scenes that appear to be a funeral.

As I said before in a earlier post. That ship has no secondary hull. It looks to be a larger version of the NX-01 style starship with the classic movie Enterprise nacelles about to crash into city buildings along the shore.

Trek Movie said it was kirk and spock doing the iconic scene.this means it could only mean one thing.Spock's death.

Or maybe we get a reverse...Kirk's Death.

That will just suck more because people will view it as clihe and tacky as TOS Spock has already died in the orignal timline which happens to be a sequel also.

Also there is that scene of scotty conforting uhura.....why else would she be crying?

Men....I really hope Spock does not die in this film.the film critics will never give JJ a pass on this one.

I for one am rooting of this film but be very critically accliamed and to in every way supass its predecessor. X-Men 2, Spiderman 2 and Dark Knight style.

With new Star Wars coming out, there can be no room of error for Star Trek.
