Chekov in red?
Maybe he has been promoted to lieutenant and tactical officer or something about security.
Remember on TNG, Worf started out wearing red (command) but later switched to gold (security). So it's not unprecedented in Trek.

Wasn't Chekov head of security on the Enterprise in the movies (a red shirt job with these uniforms). Or at least he was in the "Mirror Mirror" universe? Maybe he's got that job now in the JJVerse.

Also, one of the explanations for why he was sometimes navigator and sometimes at Spock's station and sometimes on landing parties in TOS was that being in the command track, he had to be exposed to all divisions within Starfleet. Could be that, here.

Red is dead, baby. Red is dead.

Redshirts may wear red shirts, but not all who wear red shirts are Redshirts.

Hmm. Either one of those is a double or the new reports from the full trailer are wrong.

Any or all speculation could be wrong, at this stage. This was just something passed along on Twitter yesterday by TrekMovie and I figured I'd throw it in for fun.

I don't think you can tell it's not his hand from those shots.

You can easily tell these are different hands. The length of the middle finger compared to the fingers next to it in each case is very different.
Now if either hand actually belongs to Cumberbatch is another story.

And even if it isn't Cumberbatch's hand, there's no telling if it's intended to be his character's anyway. Insert shots of hands and the like are often filmed by the second-unit crew using body-doubles.

My point is that you can't tell if the fingers have different lengths, because the pictures are taken at different angles, you can't see how bent the fingers are and in they are turned to the side in one of the pictures. They do look different though. Only Sherlock could tell.

by Orci's comments on Trek Movie, the goal is to provoke more misinformation than information in the trailers (remember Lost). They want to keep this discussion going for as long as possible, so do not expect clear answers in next trailers

Everyone should read this, which should explain the mindset behind any "mystery" about the villain.
